Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Hi Suds!
I have a Dexter KWC20, 12 years old, 40lb., 120v. It is built like a battleship. Mine is noisy due to the style of tranny, and only ~300 rpm's. This one looks like a beauty. I wonder if it is 220v? The cylinder probably reverses during the wash as well, mine doesn't. But mine was free! What do Dexters go for new$$??

Bobby,

No idea what the new 40 lb Dexters go for. I suppose 510 rpm isn't all that bad, it's at least equal to a good toploader. Maybe better since the drum is probably a bigger diameter.

It is nice looking. I've always liked the look of the Dexters I've seen in laundromats.

I wouldn't go for the stacked set, I work at my local YMCA as the laundry technician and we just moved to a new building. We considered buying one of those but other YMCAs that have them say that they are nothin but trouble. They break down constantly...

Well, at $4,000 starting bid, Cimberlie, almost twice as much as Miele set... and can't the new GE FL do 25 lbs at 1/3 the cost, and with 100 more G's to boot?

But then it's an industrial strength Dexter, much to be said in favor of that.

I take it that these Dexters are not bolt down.

Bolt down is one thing... finding 4 inches of concrete to bolt it down to is another...

Which is I guess why a number of homes built solid concrete risers in the basement, to mount early Bendix washers on. No worries about vibrating floors at that point.
