Hello All,

I am really happy to have found this website, I hope you do not mind a newbie like me posting a question. I truly welcome all considerate opinions!

I am excited to report I am planning to but a new washer/dryer, and I have my eye on the LG2277HW, which offers a 3.72 cubic foot capacity. I really like the way this machine looks, but I Must be able to wash a large puffy king-sized comforter in order to be satisfied with my new purchase.

I also considered the LG WM06442HW model, which sports a 3.83 cubic foot capacity. Altho bigger capacity and the same price as the first one at Best Buy, it is not nearly as, well, pretty, as the first one, and not stackable. I do not plan to stack now, but in the future, if I ever remodel my bathroom, I may want to stack. At this point, this is a major purchase for me, and I plan on keeping these for a long time.

Thank you for your time. I look forward to reading your comments.

Kim

Comforter

I wash my King size down comforter in my Maytag Neptune with absolutely no problems. A hint for the dryer....dry it with a few tennis balls....they fluff up the down.

Look for a GE or a BOSCH not for a LG. My neighbours had a LG washer. After a few uses she wasn't able to fill right. After a month she refused to spin at full speed and after washing 3 months the draining pump would not drain. They changed it for an other brand. If the american washers have the same quality as the european LG's, than I should choose another brand.

I'd recommend either a Whirlpool Duet frontloader, a Kenmore HE3 or HE4 frontloader or one of the newly redesigned Frigidaire FL'ers. The Whirlpool/Kenmore machines seem to have a pretty good track record for reliability, as have Frigidaire's machines. I can't speak for the new GE FL'er, but they look great!

What can we use?

Can we safely assume that there is no top-loader out there that can handle a comforter? I've tried to wash a full/queen in the Maytag Dependable Care with pretty lousy results. The comforter just "marinades" in the detergent. I don't think it even moves, much less gets clean. FEH!

Re: Washer & Dryer Recommendations:

Hi! Kim, I believe that even though almost all of the Front-Load Washers have had some kind of problems, as mentioned the original "Fridgemore's" have been worked on since their introduction and are really great Washers. The Duet's and HE's are also great Washers and as with the other Brands/Models everyone has had their likes and dislikes about almost all of them.

I've got one of the Compact "LG" Combo Washer/Dryer Units and I've never had any problems with it. I've been checking out the "LG" Units that are Stackable {as you mentioned above} for future Stacking or sitting Side-By-Side. That to me is the reason, besides having the whole Top of the Washer and Dryer for folding Laundry, or being able to have a nice larger surface to use for whatever else you might need some space for. Good Luck with your decision of Washer and Dryer choice. Please keep us "Posted" as too what you decide on. I would personally go with either the "LG" Stackable of the Kenmore "Fridgemore" Stackable Set.

"FYI" at least one of the other members has bought late last year, the new Front Controls Maytag Neptune {w/window} and is going to buy the Matching Dryer, later on this month or soon after. "BTW" the Model that they bought are not the Stackable Set, but I would as well also look into the Stackable Set. They are the "6500" Model Set, but I don't know for sure the Model Numbers, without looking on the Maytag Web-Site.

Peace and Happy Laundring, Steve

Re: Maytag Neptune Stackable Models Correction:

Hi! Kim, I just located some info that I had gotten recently from Lowe's of the new Maytag Neptune Stackable Washer & Dryer Set.

The Model Numbers are: {Washer} MAH-6700-AWW $899.00 {Electric Dryer} MDE-6700-AYW $699.00 at Lowe's. The Gas Dryer would be MDG-6700-AYW and it would be about $50.00 more for the purchase. They are at least at this time, only available in White.

Good Luck with your decision of Brand/Models that you decide on.

Peace and Happy Stackable Laundring, Steve

top load with comforter

its no surprise the comforter didnt work in the top load. the clothes being washed need to be able to flow through the water. my friend bought a whirlpool front loader and loves it. good luck.

LG Has 3.83 Capacity?

I think you should go with the largest capacity if washing the king size comforter is truly a priority. I had the Neptune (samsung) washer (for a month) and washed a king size comforter. The Neptune is 3.81 and there was no extra capacity when I washed the comforter!

Question though, I saw this LG at Best Buy last weekend. It was marked as having a 3.82 capacity. I even thought that might be a typo as the largest fl had been the Neptune at 3.81. Any case, the LG, is it truly 3.83?

I also have seen some postings that LG will be coming out with a model that is actually 4.!

Someone warned you against the LG based on the experience a neighbor had. If you go over to the Garden Web site, you can read horror stories about any of the fl washers. I think the majority of the LG owners are pleased with their machines.

Good luck!

How about the Oasis

The new Kenmore Oasis is billed as a 4.5 c.f. agitator-less top loader. If a king conforter won't fit there, it won't fit anywhere. According to the Energy Star website, this is the largest capacity washer on the U.S. market.

Kenmore Oasis?

I've never heard before of any Kenmore Oasis...
Did you want to say Kenmore Calypso? That's the top loading washers without agitator, it has a "wahs plate"... see on Kenmore website!
Bye

Actually, Venus...

My 1-18 does our king-sized comforter, but it's not very thickly filled. It turns it over perfectly, though.

No other top-loader that I've tried can do it, though. You can't seem to get away with it unless you have something besides back-and-forth agitation.

the front loader is the way to go

I say go with the He4 or 3t. they have a really good repair history, and as far as the oasis is concerned its awsome. it just got to my store today and its slick. 4.5 is the largest, and there will be a cheaper 3.8 available . according to my whirlpool rep.and it has already replaced the calypso (kenmore and the Whirlpool. and for those of you wanting to do a king size comforter anything less than 3.8 is too small in most cases. and also Lg has no 3.83 or anything over 3.7 for that matter. and its maid in thiland not europe. the kenmore he3,3t,4t, whirlpool ht and regular, kitchin aid (another division of whirlpool) and im sure bosch, and seimens, are made in europe. whirlpool maid products are out of germany , Stutgaurd(spelling?) to be exact. I work in the buisness so thats what the manufactures tell me

Harmony also?

The GE Harmony is another option - more capacity (per DOE) than even the larger new LG (3.53 for Harmony, 3.47 for new large LG, 3.21 for 2277 LG), similar wash system that the Kenmore Oasis / Whirlpool Cabrio will be coming out with.
