Hello, I'm replacing my 1972(?) Sears Kenmore 800 Series Electric Dryer, and stumbled on this forum and found that someone else might appreciate it. It's in good condition, but started to give off a strange burning smell yesterday when the heat was turned on. My guess is that it's either the heating element starting to go (or grounding itself out somehow), or one of the thermostats. I'm ready to replace this 41 year old workhorse, and I'm happy to part with it for cheap, but whoever wants it will have to come get it themselves. It's in a basement but there is bulkhead access. As I said, it was working perfectly until yesterday - I replaced the belt last year and it's been heating up and running well since then. I'm pretty sure this is an easy fix, but I'm seizing the chance to get a new one. I've included a picture below of the machine (sorry for the poor quality - it's in a dark basement) - all lights still work, and I believe everything except for the drive belt is original (but I've only had it for 5 years, so I'm not 100% sure on that).

Please email me at tannerrb AT gmail DOT com if you're interested. I'm located in the Merrimack Valley region of MA.

Photo of Control Panel

Here's the control panel - again, sorry for the poor picture quality, the lighting in the basement is pretty rough.

The dryer has a 60 minute timer (in 10 minute increments) or an automatic setting with wrinkle guard (it will tumble the clothes every 5-10 minutes to keep them from wrinkling after the cycle ends). It has two settings - Heat or Air, and the Signal can be turned on or off (and the signal works perfectly). The lint trap is on the top of the machine.

Looks to be in very nice condition!   I had a 1973 version for a while.

Can you post the model & serial numbers please?

And THANK YOU for taking the time to look for another home for it, rather than letting it hauled off to the scrap yard!

Thanks!
Kevin

Where's JasonL when we need him. The match to his childhood washer. He has a Kenmore 800 he got from Lightedcontrols, but it's got the slightly altered control panel, the "next" version of thiss series.

Yours is a 1971 model at latest. At earliest it would be from 1969. Both of those model years had 800 models with the same console design so it's hard to tell which year it was issued. You have kept this dryer in nice condition.

Thanks everybody! The model number is 1107108801 and the serial number is M21429714. The new dryer is coming tomorrow, so if anybody is interested please let me know soon. It's definitely a workhorse, and just needs a little love from someone who's more knowledgeable than I am about dryers (replacing the belt was pretty much the extent of my dryer fix-it-ness). I'm willing give it away, but it has to be picked up by the end of this weekend (and I'd need some sort of commitment by tomorrow, otherwise I'll just have the Sears guys take it with them when they bring the new one. Thanks again for the info!
