Hi,I have a Sears Kenmore Advantage gas Dryer that I bought in 1992.

This Dryer has not been used in 6 yrs.It starts up and run's and spins like it's working, but it's not drying the clothes. It's not heating up,dryer is not warm or hot when I open the door after running it.

I checked the 4 inch Dryer Air Vent and there is no obstruction or lint in the vent. The Dryer lint trap is clean.

I spent $120 at the parts appliance store 6 yrs ago,on 4 different parts and none of the parts fixed the problem.I did not have a multimeter at that time,so I was doing alot of guessing.

So I do the wash in our house,so I just gave up on the Dryer and started hanging the clothes on the basement line. Not going lie, them towels are rough.

Any help or option would be greatly appreciated,I would love to get the Dryer working again.

There are pictures of the invoices of the parts I already bought and replaced on the Dryer when it stopped working.

Thanks Jerry[this post was last edited: 11/14/2024-00:42]

Non heating 1992 Kenmore gas dryer

Hi Jerry, there's probably a problem down at the gas burner assembly. Take the lower panel off and check for voltage at the disconnect right at the gas burner, set the dryer to run on a setting where it should be heating and see if there's 120 V there

If there is you likely have a bad igniter flame sensor or valve coils all are quite easy to change. You only likely need one of them once you get into it I can tell you how to test them.

The first thing to do is see if the igniter comes on and glows and then shuts off in a minute or so if it does that you know the igniter is good and the flame sensor is good then you just replace the valve coils Less than $25 part, if the igniter does not glow you can look at it you can usually see if it's broken if it looks OK then check the flame sensor for continuity.

Let us know what you find, John
