47" & 57" Carousel Washing system

The Carousel washing system was used in maily family laundries in the 40's and 50's the idea was 1 could handle loads for washers easier. and only one water feed and drain and ele connection was needed for all machines. These machines were split pocket 100 lb machines and used mainly for larger work such as sheets and large table linens.

Weren't these

the 'prehistorical' versions of continous batch washers? I remember seeing a powerpoint from kannegieser where these pictures where included. I might be wrong but has that poensgen machine a counterflow of the rinse and wash water? Btw what do you prefer sudsman? Washerextractors or Tunnelwashers?

Dont think the counter flo system were until the 60's

Tunnel or Batch Depends on the setting. For one large operation the tunnel is best . Where you have several hosptials as we do the batch system is best. as keeping the different hospitals apart is a must. For large linen supply type where they dont worry about keeping each account seperate the tunnel is also best.

Poensgen did have the first tunnel system, It used plunger type agitation very much like a toilet plunger as the linen was carried thru on wire mesh belts. The first one in U S was in a New York hospital laundry around 1965.

There are days when I feel like I could use the system in picture 2, LOL. I will probably feel like that on Wednesday since I'm behind as heck with my laundry. I haven't had a day off since last Tuesday, need to get my butt in gear!!
