Help Support :

The expedited shipping charge is $12.75? I guess if the opening bid is five grand they are willing to spring for most of the shipping fee. This looks like the Servel my parents had when I was a toodler.

That seller has breathed too much of what was kept in that Serval fridge that looked like it was dredged from the bottom of a lake-speaking of lakes my Moms summer camp at Lake Winnepesaki had a fridge just like this.Beleive the refrigerant used in these was ammonia gas?And if these were recalled or whatever-does the 5 grand price include the upgrade?-and for shipping the seller should deliver the thing to you!

They were recalled because people neglected to maintain them and they then produced carbon monoxide.  If the flue and burner are kept clean, they work fine.

Interesting--not fault of the machine----but the PILOT!So funny how appliances are "recalled" because folks don't read the owners book and follow the SIMPLE maintenance instructions!Yes see the product of our dumbed down society!I don't remember ANY problems with the Serval that was in the lake cottage.Worked just fine after the burner was lit-and cooled quickly! That fridge sort of amazed me--no compressor!-so it was deathly-spooky QUIET!!!I got the job of lighting-starting it when we visited the place in the summers past.

Serval Gas Refs

Were not recalled because of owners not performing simple maintenance on them, they were recalled because many people DIED from CM poisoning when they improperly tried to convert natural gas units to run on propane and then used them in small poorly ventilated hunting cabins and fishing houses.

We have a fully restored pre-WW2 Serval N-gas ref here that cools fine, but when we test it for CM output it pegs our test meter at over 1000 PPM of CM. I would not dare to use this ref indoors.

I would like to see a copy of the simple maintenance that was supposed to be performed on these units, We have the service manual and according to it everything should be fine, it has a beautiful blue flame in the generator chamber.

Gas refs disappeared because they not only performed poorly, cost more to run than electric refs and in most cases did not last as long as electric models, When was the last time you saw one still running compared to the thousands of old electric refs you still running and cooling just fine.

Again, they died after messing with them.  These were made to operate on natural gas, Propane or Kerosene with the correct parts.

I have had these.  I have never operated one.  I have friends that have used them and not died.  They were designed and sold when many didn't have reliable electric service.

People also continue to abuse and destroy vintage electric refrigerators because they lack basic common sense about care.  They're still breaking lines on monitor tops because they don't move them properly.  That's ok, because they just need some more Freon, right?

Well

The shipping has dropped to $7.20. It's becoming a better deal. Maybe it will next drop to free.
