That's great! I have a 99 Mercury, it's still like brand new and I'm kind of attached to it, and I have every receipt from the dealer and everything I've ever had done to it. Now I'm tempted to keep it and be just like Rachel, LOL. She's clearly gotten around in her day though-if I did keep mine that long it would probably still have roughly half the mileage of hers.

Does anyone know if the "Comet" would have been a twin to the Ford Fairlane? My uncle by marriage (age 87) has one of those, a 64 or 65. I think they only ever drove it once a week if that and I bet it doesn't have more than 75,000 miles. It looks very nice, like hers. He has a 90s-era Taurus that he's driven more in recent years and he always had trucks around, which I'm sure is why the mileage is so low. Still it's right there in the little garage he built for it!

Twins for sure!

Yep, the Comet and Fairlane were mechanical cousins and shared just about everything but trim and panels. Great vehicles for what they were. Not nearly as safe as today's cars,so you just have to remember to "watch out for the other guy!"

She has unusual mechanical knowledge for a woman of her generation and it has paid-off for her.
It is possible that just about ANY car she owned would have lasted like this one. Did you notice how clean the engine compartment is? How many people her age (or any age) have the engine and compartment steam-cleaned with regularity?

A really kool vintage Merc.
I'd love to have one!
