Going through old pictures. This shot was taken shortly before the wrecking ball hit the building.
I have a picture of the door which had "Edison Electric Company" engraved in stone. It's in a shoebox somewhere.
The sign lit the letters in succession. When all the letters in Hotpoint lit red, a strobe would then dot the " i ".
The year would be approximately 1975 (I think...)

So many buildings like this were lost in the 70's and later, by which time local government agencies should have known better.

We lost a 1924 Westinghouse plant in Emeryville, CA in the mid-late 80's.  The bright yellow rooftop sign could be easily seen and read from across the bay in San Francisco at night.

Great Picture!
How Sad...
The building looked so well built! Terrible it was kept as a National Treasure of History.

I guess it was torn down long before the condo/loft real estate market took over major cities. It looks like it would have made a perfect conversion....sad
