With the rainy weather today I found a few minutes to tear into the '57 Princess to see how bad the leaky pump situation is. Well, I'm stymied. Is there a way to remove the pump impeller without damage? Or was this a one-shot assembly? The bowtie mount appears to be crimped into place but maybe there's a secret to this...?

Hey Cory.

I had wanted the seal replaced in my Bowtie motor 6-7 years ago.  I sent the motor out and the guy sent it back in pieces and said "I never seen anything like this."

Sent the motor to another place with all the pieces and never heard from the guy again. Phone disconnected.

So, I am assuming they are a challenge.  I do have another motor just like yours in the pic. Does your machine have the Power Shower ?

How yoooo doin' ?

Thanks Eddie, that's what I was afraid of.

Well, no harm pressing forward then. With a dremel and some chisels I was able to "split" the mount and relieve pressure on the motor shaft, then carefully pry it and the pump off. I should be able to retension it and possibly drill a hole to 'pin' it back together

Here's the culprit... Am I SOL on a replacement seal?

PS...no Power Shower on this one.

A big reason I love these dishwashers

The Power Shower didn't debut until 1960; I think the spring drain and Power Shower tub connections also appeared that year. IMO, those were the most impressive genius engineering features of the built-in units. You installed the dishwashers by installing the outer cabinet/frames and then connecting the tub, which was a huge drawer,by sliding it on rollers into the frame after connecting the electrical plug to a socket in a junction box on the frame. All the water connections were then self-actualizing.

I remind you all that there are a couple of large GE dishwasher service manuals available in the Ephemera library. They may be helpful.
