Help Support :

If these clocks are anything like the ones in 50's/60's autos, usually just a quick cleaning and lubrication is all that is needed to revive them.

Sigh

He hates Radiantubes. He said so himself; I passed out cold and had to call him back when I came to. I told him it wasn't natural, that you just had to adapt to the thick elements.  There was no talking sense to him.

He likes the GE coils, which is fine because he'll have all the Calrod he can handle when we SECRETLY REPLACE HIS KDS-18 WITH A NICE 1965 GE WASH-ARM MACHINE TO MATCH HIS STOVE!!

Years ago GE made kits with adapters so that you could replace any surface unit with a Calrod. There were store displays for them. It would really just be a matter of seeing whether Calrods, Coroxs or Chromalox units could be made to sit level and secure in the openings and you could have infinite heat switches with thin tubes, except for the HeatMinder. I guess at this stage you just have to relax and accept the thickness if you want that stove. The worst thing about old Radiantubes is that some tend to warp when heated and the spider under them can sag when heated allowing the center portion of the element to droop. Greg is right to prefer the GE because at the age of both ranges, the GE's elements are probably more stable. With standard size cookie sheets, the Frigidaire's ovens are better for a cookie bake-off which is why Greg should probably keep it for cookie baking.

No apologies here...

Sorry guys, 80" of electric cooking is just too much for my little house!  I have a 36" GE induction cooktop, three microwave ovens, a convection microwave oven and multitudes of small electrics so the Frigidaire is just too much.

It isn't so much the girth of the cooking elements, I got used to them on the '58 and the small Frigidaire oven is hands-down the better of the two when compared with the GE small oven.  The 59 has the first of the pull-n-clean oven cavity but the downside of that is that the range front & top above the door is very warm as the oven venting hadn't been quite perfected on the new design.  The kitchen, dining and living rooms were all planned around the GE in the warmer pink color and the turquoise is just too cool feeling for the warm woods and colors of the space.  Who knows, perhaps a pre-pull-n-clean pink Frigidaire will show up!

I would buy the Frigidaire in a heartbeat, for the big kitchen reno I need here.  I could have maybe had a similar white one, but I think it was carted off for scrap.
