I have no idea, Tom.

But if I had to guess, many times even those used to a wall-oven will convert to a one-piece std. 30 inch (75 cm) free-standing range to get a bigger oven. It is also less expensive than two separate pieces.

To get a second oven, one can install a micro-convection range-hood over the stove, or get a Maytag Gemini with two ovens, or have an electric couter-top oven and/or rotisserie.
Sears now even sells models whose storage drawer *Triples* as a storage drawer, a warming drawer AND a little oven.

But they did not have to buy an oven. They had this and it works, right? John and Jeff always tell customers who want to install a commercial gas range to put in a self-cleaning electric wall oven for use, especially during the warm months, to lessen the load on the AC and to get a good broiler.

Somtimes a whole one-piece range is less than EITHER component.

Logic would have dictated, then, leave the double wall-oven and add a one piece range instead of just a cooktop.

Assuming, of course, the oven truly works and works well.

As I said, even when they buy a big gas range with burners and an oven, a built in electric oven is very handy for most baking and does not heat up the kitchen as much. Everyone who has taken his advice has thanked him repeatedly for the suggestion. Those stoves usually do not have self cleaning ovens or removable doors so they like to keep the messy cooking in the electric self cleaner.
