I have had this refrigerator for a few months now, and want to share my experience. I wanted a Whirlpool because I felt the most comfortable fix it if necessary in the future. I chose away from GE because of reliance on SmartHQ and their chipped water filters which really chafe me. I looked at other brands too. The Frigidaire ice room was smaller. One tech I trust told me that Bosch ice makers had problems. And I would never buy an LG or Samsung refrigerator. So these things influenced my decision.

Here are some thoughts, in no particular order.

1. Even though the box is full size, inside the capacity seems small. I don't know why. It just seems to fill up very easily, with not much groceries. It may be because there are three drawers that take up a lot of capacity.

2. If you put something on the top shelf, it can block the light.

3. The metal that is used on the doors seems thin. Just an impression.

4. The icemaker harvesting is loud when the ice drops. It can be startling if you don't know what the sound is.

5. The system runs a lot because it is cooling three compartments and I think the ice room requires a lot of attention to stay frozen. The compressor has a tiny whiny sound that can be irritating if you stop and listen.

6. I haven't been able to remove the ice bin, it is sorta frozen in place. I fix these for customers, but they never have ice in them when I am working on them, so they come out fine. Not that I need to remove the bin, but I have tried a couple of times out of curiosity and it won't budge.

7. Cooled air in FF enters only at the upper left corner, on the side of the ice room. It isn't distributed at all, like on other models or brands. How that tiny vent keeps everything cold is a wonder, but it does work. I tend to keep from placing sensitive items up there because they could freeze.

8. The FF drawers feel solid and only slightly wobbly. I like having FF at eye level because I use it a lot more than frozen.

9. I like the ice dispenser in the door. I used to have a top mount with a bin, and I got really tired of scooping ice into a tumbler, so the door dispenser is really nice to have. I even drink filtered water occasionally, but the sink water is fine too.

10. Styling-wise, it is a little boring. WP hasn't updated any of its refrigerators in years. It looks nice, but there is no wow factor.

Yes Todd, thanks for your review...

I'm quite certain there will be no fridge like my Whirlpool side by side fridge...

It's pushing 16-years-old, but cools and freezes perfectly, given that it's from one of the best last well made eras!

I'd hate to think of what I'd have to replace it with when there's nothing as reliablee, mine uses long-lasting, replaceable light bulbs and it's a good, usable 25-cubic-feet, although I do fight the some drawbacks to the configuration mine still makes me deal with...

My daughter wants a bottom-freezer and nearly all her friends have such, right down to the sliding center drawer and what's to me also offering limited space accommodating a through-door ice and water dispenser interfering with the needed refrigeration space...

The only thing that doesn't work on my present fridge is the ice dispenser, the cubes no longer fall through the chute and crushed ice is no longer able to obtain through it either..

But otherwise I find it no big deal to open the freezer to get my cubes that I prefer over crushed that are in the holder just inside the door...

I remember the first time I took my ice bin out in my whirlpool side x side...I wasn't sure how it came out... Now that it's been out many times you have to lift up then pull otherwise it does feel frozen in place.

It is so freaking SAD that in 2025 we can't really trust any brands for refrigerators... really there are none. It's a total tossup... and you have to resort to getting something BOL with little to no features hoping those will last longer.

Fridge

Great review!
Our old Whirlpool side by side was great, but frozen pizzas didn’t fit well. Never missed a beat. Only two broken door trays after 11 years.
The new KA French door has already had two in 2 years. It is quieter, but again does seem to run constantly. Praying it lasts! Samsung and LG are able to get away with trash, so Whirlpool may think they can downgrade components and quality. Sad.
