$9849.99 is WAY WAY WAY too much! You can literally buy a classic car for $9K. I have no idea why people come up with these ridiculous prices but if they want to keep it forever they will sure keep it forever since no one wants to pay $9K wich is almost $10K for a vintage window air conditioner and yes there are ones that are quite rare but they don’t sell for almost $10K. People seriously need to do research or join Facebook groups where there are experts on this stuff who know what the value is instead of assuming what the value is and most of the time it’s some ridiculous number they come up with.

Can't help myself...

I'm going to ask the seller if it works, and if so, is it whispery quiet. Will let you know.

Oh, and eBay buyers are weird. There will be many of an item sold for 30-40, then I list mine (with good picture and description), and it sells for 99.

Here's the conversation

I know I shouldn't tease the wildlife, but I couldn't resist:

Me: Hi,
Does this air conditioner work? How well does it cool, and how quiet is it. These machines were typically very quiet unlike many other window units.
Thank you,
Sarah

Him: Never plugged it in. It will likely need to be gone through prior to use.

Me: Ok, thanks. May I ask how you came up with the price?

Him: To be honest there wasn’t any out there to compare to. I researched extensively and only found a few old magazine ads from back on the day. I’m open to offers if you are interested.

Me: Thank you. I'm not interested in buying the a/c. Someone on a collector's group I belong to posted it to the group. Everyone was ridiculing your listing price, and I decided to politely ask you about it. Honestly, I think you might get several hundred dollars from a collector on a good day. It's also possible you'll find a buyer entranced by the machine buy it at your listing price. I think that's less likely. Rare doesn't always mean valuable.

However you manage to sell it, I am very happy that you are trying to save it instead of scrapping it.

Best of luck,
Sarah
