A Craigslist Question

On what I thought is the "official Craigslist site," listings were grouped by the date they were posted. Recently that changed. They were still shown in the order posted but the date was shown individually. Now there is no date shown. You need to open the listing in order to find out how current it is. There's a "Posted Today" box you can check but you find that a listing that says "posted 2 hours ago" is followed by an ad posted days or even weeks ago. I understand you can update your ad but there seems to be way too many "updates" to make me believe this is the reason for the date sequence problem. This really puts a dent in the fun of browsing Craigslist. Has anyone else experienced this? Maybe I'm using the wrong site but it's the same one I've used for years. Thanks

I haven't been on CL for a few days but didn't notice anything unusual.

 

What annoys me about CL is that you have to sign up/create an account with them in order to report or inquire about issues with the site.

So when you open a catagory like appliances you can see, without actually opening the listing, the date which it was posted?

New CL Format

I found the page format you're describing last evening when I was browsing the Mobile CL.  The old format seemed more user-friendly and manageable; I don't care for the "new" one.

I just "returned" from the Craigslist forum where this question has been addressed. The response was to hover over the letter code on the listing title and the time/date would be indicated. This does work, however opening the ad shows a very different posting date in number of days. In checking at least 100 posts the date is different at least 85% of the time and often by as many as 25 days. I'll wait and see what the "official" response is. Sorry, I don't mean to turn this thread into a Federal case & thanks.

"The date you see in the category index will be the date/time it was posted OR renewed. Within the ad, there are three date/time groups. The one at the top will be the date/time it was originally posted. Then two at the bottom of the ad, the first one the original date/time it was posted and then the most recent date/time it was renewed."

I find the same crap on Maine Craigslist, but in all categories. Nobody follows the 2 day rule and reposts the same crap when they get towards the bottom of page 1. Flag 'em for excessive posting.

Mine changed but not as you have described.

<span style="font-family: verdana,geneva;">I noticed the other day that a new section appeared to the left of the screen where you could click on and off the categories you wanted to see but mine still appears to have the date in the listing and is sorted by the newest.  I've attached a picture of what mine looks like.</span>

As of today my Craigslist looks like the above with dates posted in the listing title so it's not necessary to open the ad.

In the future I will do what our resident "king of the Craigslist ads" Ovrphil said above...I'll get over it. It's good advice.

I noticed the left column change, but I always peruse the ads with the thumbnail pics mode. Seems to be quicker to just glance than to do all that cumbersome reading
