Recently I noticed that P&G was going to discontinue the Tide Pure Essentials line, which had a baking soda variant that had a lilac sent, and a citrus lemon scent called Lemon Verbena.

I haven't seen the lemon variant in stores in years, but Target has and seems to always have about 6 100 oz. bottles of the lilac baking soda version. These are the variants that come in the tan/beige bottles.

In 2011, P&G changed their date coding procedure on caps, from a printed code to a heat embossed code. P&G told me on the phone a few weeks ago that the these formulations had been discontinued in July of 2010. Their website seemed to confirm that as customers were lamenting the discontinuance of these formulas.

Oddly, when I was in Target on Saturday, I notice five bottles of this on the shelf as usual, and they all had 2011 caps. So, unless someone swapped out fresh caps on last year's production, they're still making this in limited form.

Has anyone heard of this? I'm just curious. I don't care for the Lilac product at all, in fact I gave what I had to my mother after about two or three loads. I do like the Lemon scent, but it is very hard to find. I'm just curious as to why it keeps showing up at Target if the product has been dropped by P&G.

Not Always Dropped

But not widely distributed.

P&G sometimes does this when a product does not sell well in certain areas. Rather local distributers probably simply do not order product they cannot move.

Tide with "Hydrogen Peroxide" hasn't been seen on local store shelves in ages around here, but it can still be found elsewhere.

Have seen several bottles of "White Liliac" scented Tide liquid mouldering on local store shelves as well. Apparently elsewhere in the USA there is a huge demand for the stuff.

Not found on the Downy web site either.

This is too bad because this was the only scent line of Downy that I can stand. The scents were pleasant and comforting. The current Downy scents are strong, sweet and too in your face. Evey time I try one of the newly released Downy scents I end up having to pour it down the drain. It's pretty much the end of the line for Downy and me.
