Recently I noticed that P&G was going to discontinue the Tide Pure Essentials line, which had a baking soda variant that had a lilac sent, and a citrus lemon scent called Lemon Verbena.
I haven't seen the lemon variant in stores in years, but Target has and seems to always have about 6 100 oz. bottles of the lilac baking soda version. These are the variants that come in the tan/beige bottles.
In 2011, P&G changed their date coding procedure on caps, from a printed code to a heat embossed code. P&G told me on the phone a few weeks ago that the these formulations had been discontinued in July of 2010. Their website seemed to confirm that as customers were lamenting the discontinuance of these formulas.
Oddly, when I was in Target on Saturday, I notice five bottles of this on the shelf as usual, and they all had 2011 caps. So, unless someone swapped out fresh caps on last year's production, they're still making this in limited form.
Has anyone heard of this? I'm just curious. I don't care for the Lilac product at all, in fact I gave what I had to my mother after about two or three loads. I do like the Lemon scent, but it is very hard to find. I'm just curious as to why it keeps showing up at Target if the product has been dropped by P&G.
