Hello everybody!
I know it's been a while ... it's been waaaay too long ... life has been super busy for us, but we're still treasuring and using and collecting appliances! And we wanted to make a post today to share all the great major updates we've had in that department. Actually, we'll have to make TWO posts: one here for the vintage washer and driver, and one over in Super for the fridges and other fun stuff!
So first of all, if you remember our coppertone 60s Maytag set we had, and the troubles we'd last had with them (the washing machine had been pretty well used and it had a lot of rusting and issues on the inside), a few years ago we finally had to say goodbye after a good loving decade of use. The bearings on the washing machine went and it had other transmission problems, and Bob our resident expert and appliance genius said it was finally time to say goodbye. It was a sad moment for sure -- we LOVED that system -- but we also knew that they were pretty well used by the time we first got them back around 2007 or so, and to have all these years of good use was a blessing. The dryer was still in good shape, so in lieu of keeping it in storage for that future day when we have some kind of outbuilding in the back run with plumbing and electricity for multiple vintage test kitchens and laundry rooms (my husband's dream, NOT mine!), it was donated to a local appliance shop where they could find it a good home. We did take some good video of it before decommissioning -- my husband is a Maytag man and still misses the quiet warm hum that the dryer would make.
But ... in replacement of that set, through Bob the incredible appliance maven, we were able to get what is our all-time, absolute DREAM system: a 1972 Sears Lady Kenmore automatic washer and dryer in avocado green!
Here's the photos. We even found a vintage Sears plaque on eBay and have it mounted over the laundry tub. We are in absolute LOVE with this system!
