A vortex from the " Other side?" LOL & Wonderful

I love how Arty can flip the SUDS button out of its awkward, asymetrical position--oh! the ignominy of being a non-suds user--and flood the floor when you neglect his bath.

Look at how weird the suds button looks when not in use. PLEASE fix that, and show us the glory of a solid tub GE Suds-return.

The close-ups are drop-dead gorgeous, Jon. Thanks.

I gotta admit that the GE FF's really do make the neatest stop action pictures. Third picture down is especially cool with the water flowing thru it. Very nice!

Man, what is there not to like.....lighted controls, suds saver, solid tub....the list goes on.....

and especially love the filter flume at 12 o' clock position

absolutely beautiful Jon

what year is this from, the filter pan is not copper....

Martin, you remind me of a question I've always wondered about. Knowing that manufacturers USUALLY don't change something without a reason, was there a reason behind GE moving the location of the filter flume? Was there any benefit to it being at 12 o'clock vs where it went to in later models?

RCD

if I am correct Drew, the relocation of the filter flume was to reduce the depth of the cabinet so it would set flush with the counters and flush against the wall.....almost like a counter depth fridge......

I just think it looks so neat at the 12noon spot.....and wondering if there is a way to change a regular filter flo back to the 12 noon position.....it doesn't have to come thru the metal top, best bet would be to slide the splash shield over to that spot.....there would also be a little hidden notch to cut out as well...

My Mom Had an Identical Machine

My Mom had an exactly identical machine from 1960 to 1968, and the she gave it to my Grandmother, who used it until she died twenty years later. (Mom got another FF, a 1969, which she used another thirty years.) Twenty eight years for the 1960 machine!!! I don't even think we ever even had to have it worked on! I remember placing my hand on the lid and feeling how warm it was when the machine was washing (back in the days when hot water was 160 degrees). I still remember the gurgling sounds it made and the lighted dial. Our clothes were always clean.

BTW, it looks like you swapped out the black Activator cap for a turquoise one from 1959. The filter pan looks original.

What A Beauty!

I almost popped a woodie, when I saw the pics of your machine! I always loved the GE FF's. I loved their ability to wash, and rinse like few other MFG's, as well as their very futuristic styling. They always made great noises, as well as put on such a great show while washing. The only thing missing from your post, was a video of your machine, doing its thing. Hint Hint!
Hug's,
David

Oh, now...

THAT is pretty! The composition of your pictures is always so artful! Now, can we have a coffee-fueled video, please? Pretty please?

Mike, it was a completely different agitator with 4 paddles at the base, each with a rounded presenting edge that extended just beyond the skirt. The one piece plastic filter pan was great protection from moisture for the top of the agitator shaft that was covered only by the screw down cap, but then they went to the one piece agitator, eliminating the problem.
