A former Burger Chef that's back in business serving . . . burgers!

Up until about two weeks ago Danville IL had Schroeders until they suddenly closed. Schroeders had been the last operating Burger Chef until their franchise agreement expired and the family who owned it changed the name, but kept basically everything else the same. It was always busy and a lot of people are sad to see it go.

Gino's did incorporate KFC in the '70s

then later, mid-late '80s? they were bought out by Roy Rogers.
Gino's was started by Gino Marchetti, the great Baltimore Colt, in the late 50s.
Centered around Baltimore at first, later on VA to NJ.

Walkups, that's what the early burger restaurants were called. It's good to know the term. I can't find doodley squat about the early one in our Decatur suburb.

The company that owns Hardees / Carl's Jr still owns the Burger Chef trademarks. Now and then they will offer some Burger Chef items in a few stores in order to keep the trademarks legally in force.

Our Burger Chef near the corner of Virginia Avenue, on the southeast side of the highway turned straight into a car wash. The side walls of the building are still there, and maybe an arch or two. I liked the place.

"For fkfteen cents. A nickle and a dime. Burger Chef, you eat better everytime. For a nickle and a dime will get

French fried potatoes,thick,thick shakes or the greatest fifteen cent hamburger yet."

I have no clue as to why I remember shit like this but the tune is forever embeded in my deapest soul.
There's numerous songs from many different commercials I remember by seeing them on tv like Chock Full of Nuts coffee, Whirlpool, Frigidaire,Maxwellhouse coffee,guldens mustard,and many more. But I'll be damned if I can remember my fucking phone numbers.
