How many shoes does she have?

I think I have found 4 pairs of shoes in this little clutch! They are the:
Slip Shoes attached to the outer clutch drum
Primary shoes beneath the inner drum
Inner lock-in shoes beneath everything
Outer lock-in shoes with the inner lock in shoes.

Which ones wear out and make all this terrible noise? I would be thankful for some confirmation of that before I order parts. I am reading the description of how the 2 speed clutch works starting on page 17 of the manual, but it is coming out clear as mud.

That manual is great, a tremedndous help. It just make me want to rebuild my Sturmey Archer AG 3-speed bicycle hub with the built in generator. (No, I'm not being sarcastic.)

Dave my suggestion would be if you can get an entire clutch assembly brand new on eBay for not too much $$ that is what I would do. No one can say for sure whether the noise in that clutch is being caused by shoes, bearings or something else. If you want to keep this washer going for more time, I would replace it all.

Part number question...

I am looking at a WH49X265 2-speed clutch. Will it fit my grandparents' washing machine, model WWA8344VCL ?

I can find parts diagrams online but they just list a breakdown of parts and not the entire clutch assembly. I did find one place that lists the WH48X265 clutch assembly as replacing the following parts: WH5X203, WH49X186, WH49X198, WH49X227, and WH49X0265.

Should I get it?

Also, should I get any other parts (I am getting a belt too) for the clutch replacement? I have seen reference to clips, pins, etc. Should I replace any of them or can I reuse the ones I have?

interesting noises

I remember when my mom used the mini basket on small and normal speed. It sounded like the washer was off balanced when it hit rinse agitation. I actually found out that it was just the washer rinsing.
