A good day at the haulaway pile Pt.2

Here's a little treat for you GE fans. These were find #2 in the haulaways. A vintage GE washer and dryer set in Avacado Green. The numbers were on incredibly small, shiny metal tags. I hope I got them right.

Money shots... How old are these? Any ideas?

the reason they were turned in was the washer was noisy and the dryer stopped randomly mid cycle. the dryer turned out to be an incorrect door switch. The throw is too short and even with the door closed, it'd not always show closed. The customer even taped a bumper to the inside door to help.

The washer was clean underneath.

The washer sure was noisy. Look at the belt that was on it and figure out why. I don't know how it worked with this belt but it did!

Once I changed the belt, I fed it a load of towels. Nice wash action. Quiet power indeed. Of course, I shot a little video...

Spins nicely too. These were well cared for. Even the lights work. Here's the washer features. Unfortunately, I didn't get the mini basket...

They cleaned up very well. Here they are washing and drying side by side. All purty! These hold a special place in my mind as I remember my Grandmother in Laguna Beach, CA. having this exact set in white. I had fond memories helping her do the laundry in them as a kid. I had found the mini basket really neat.

I'm debating on keeping these. My focus is primarily Maytags and room is at a premium so if there are any interested parties out there, drop me a line! I'll be happy if they make it to a good loving home instead of ending up in the scrap pile where they were headed.

I knew someone that had the same exact dryer in white. But had a Whirlpool washer to go with it that was almost TL with a panel light also.

These were certainly well taken care of! The quick agitation stroke is wicked fast! More options on both the washer, and especially the dryer, than you can shake a stick at.

Seeing beauties like these initially headed to the crusher really makes one wonder what treasures gets crushed on a daily basis around the US!!

Those are stunning! I guess a late 60's-vintage... Boy, if I was any closer I'd be considering these, believe me! It is staggering to think of how many similar, well-built machines have been sent to the crusher for the want a a minor tweak or two!

Beautiful, just beautiful set. The GE guys may know more - but would this be one of the last dryers to have a foot pedal?

If I'm reading the serial number correctly, both were MFG'd in May of 1968. Even without the serial numbers, they have the early V16 badge from '68, where my '69 has the later Heavy Duty badge.

Double OMG!!!

What a gorgeous set and thank you for saving them, keeping them and posting them. The washer is another f**king GE oddball model. It is just one step below their TOL for that year that, I believe, didn't even feature the panel light. No timed bleach dispenser, just a bleach funnel, the timer dial is standard without the programmed soak feature. The dryer is a standard catalogue model from that year. They must have jury-rigged these models with spare sparts from the production line.

Was the mini-basket in the machine? And, if you would be so kind, could you post some shots of the activator with or without?
