Wide open spaces...

Jason and Jeff, everything looks great. Hope you both enjoyed yourselves.

Greg, what a DIFFERENCE having no wall makes; I know it will be far off, but I can't wait to see how the new setup looks when it's all finished. And it's always fun peeling back the different eras of vinyl glued to the floor in the midst of the renovation...;-)

Oh my, the fun begins at Greg's!

Jeff I always enjoy seeing pictures from your Mom's kitchen. I have an older (mid 70s) version of that chrome mixer, which I used yesterday to make pumpkin cheesecake to take to a gathering today.

Cranberry sauce???

I am SO laughing at the cranberry sauce... too funny. Looks like you're progressing on that remodel, I know you'll do an awesome job!

Scott: Mom's kitchen is a time warp of sorts. The cabinets and counters are from 1978, most of the appliances from 1996, and that wall paper from 1969!! That wall paper will never go away! Note also the outlets/switches where the mixer is plugged in. Dad put a Dymo lable on the disposal switch so mom could tell them apart(the other is for the light over the sink) After 40 years in the same house, she's still confusing switches!
I bought her that Mixmaster for Christmas in 1986, to replace the model 11W mom had gotten for a wedding present in 1955. The cord was going bad and it was not unusual for you to get ZAPPED trying to eject the beaters. I don't know that the chrome one gets all that much use anymore but Mom was damn good baker when I was a growing up. I have the model 11 displayed in my kitchen today.

Cosy Homes!!!

Gosh

Christmas trees and turkey, I`d better be gettin my butt into gear!!!!All the best Jason & Helen for the festivities and beyond, you have a wonderful home, do you share the cooking??

Jason is the fryer an electric turkey thingy?? is this the traditional way to cook the meat, fry then oven cook?? Enquiring minds need to know....

Jeff the Litton microwave took me back to starting in electrical sales...Zanussi had Litton microwaves made for them before they started making their own later....a very solid machine I remember...

Greg, as if you hadnt got enough to do!!!! where`s the Sub Zero then....my guess is its in the garage and you are going to put 2 stackable vintage laundry items there because you can...Am I right...lol

Hi Scott, that recipe sounds like its needs to be shared, sounds delicious and I`ve never made it...

Enjoy, Mike

The fun begins is right!

I've been talking about this for some time now and luckily found a couple of guys that can do some framing/drywall, etc. in their spare time so I'm forging ahead with the vision. The rest of the kitchen cabinets, floor, etc. comes out after the holidays but we started now to have time to work on the lighting, removing a window in the kitchen and some smaller projects in the meantime.

Mike, the SubZ had compressor problems in both refrigerator and freezer sections so we dumped it and bought a temporary replacement on craigslist. I mostly hate it, but must admit the dispensers in the door is a nice feature.

Have a great weekend everyone -

Chestermike. No there were two turkeys and a pork roast. Helen baked a turkey in our oven, my dad fried a turkey in the fryer and cooked a pork roast in the Rotisserie. We have a big family thanksgiving so the fried turkey and the pork got devoured, the baked one got mostly ravaged.

Greg, a Hoover refrige? Is that a Maytag in disguise?

No, it's actually a Kenmore made by Frigidaire. That Hoover logo is just a magnet. I have to dig through my box of logos and insignias to come up with a more "real" looking one - I think I have Coldspot script somewhere that could be fun. I've never had a side-by-side and am not completely sold on that concept - perhaps with a larger capacity it would be OK, but I'm loving the dispensers!

Once the re-do of the kitchen is done, I'll invest in another built-in fridge, but for now this one works and I won't care if it gets dusty & banged around, plus it's a lot easier to move than a seven-foot tall SubZ!

Jason, did y'all have enough dishes for taht large family gathering or did you, GASP, clutches heart & says 'I'm comin' Ethel!"" use paper plates!!! I wouldn't blame the dishwasher if it went on strike not being allowed to tacke such a huge crowd's worth of mega sized & counted loads!!

Dishes

Yes, there were PLENTY of dishes. My parents has some of their original ones I had to trudge through mud and oil to get to and a bunch of new ones. Both DW's (my parents and mine) was running a Bobload each.
