My good friend needs to replace his 5 year old washer thats dead. I saw somewhere here that Speed Queen still makes a top loader with an old school agitator and trans thats built pretty well? Hes looking for something thats going to wash clothes like our trusted old school machines, isnt worried about water usage, and wants to get more than 5 years out of it. Any reccomendatons?

If you want the classic agitator washer, without a lid lock, etc..., Speed Queen still makes the "classic wash" series top loaders (model numbers begin with TC (not to be confused with the TR series with the stationary agitator). That is the only brand that I know designed as a classic top loader. It does have electronic controls. You can go to the Speed Queen website to see them. They are pricey though, if I am not mistaken, around $1,200

TC5

I bought a TC5 in May 2024. So far I love it. Retail is $1479, most dealers mark them $1329.

While expensive, these aren't big box stores, and they will usually negotiate. Got mine for $1150 total, with free delivery, installation, haul away, and $90 extension hose.
