A LOOK BACK 10 YEARS AGO THIS VERY DAY, WASH-IN 2001 MINNEAPOLIS, MN, ROBERT'S BASEMENT & HOUSE

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

OH WOW ROBERT! Thanks for the photo archive. Photo 65 is my baby stove. Where did she wind up? That was the greasiest moment in her life. I had forgotten the Eugene Field poem, but I remembered your taking the picture for me. Thank you again.

No problem Tom.  The '54 Frigidaire Range (my very first vintage range) went to Scott.  If I remember correctly, before he moved to LA he found a good home for it with a friend who like it.

THANK YOU, GENTLEMEN, AND THANK YOU, AGAIN

for the fabulous pictures, and for taking us not-then-members back for all the fun. This is glorious. What a wonderful idea, Uncle Bob. Gosh, y'all look like teenagers. Would love to know which guy is Glenn.

Wow

I just graduated high school then, I wish I had known there was such a thing back then. A lot of familiar faces still in the group, which is great. Everyone looks like they're having a great time too!

Thanks Robert from the uk

Great to see such a fun time being had by such great people, including our wonderful chestermike.

Robert seeing these photos, it seems a great opportunity to thankyou for setting up and maintaining the site, I've no idea just how much work this envolves. But what I want to say is a great big thankyou, Aw has enabled so many of us to meet up and form some of best friendships that will last a lifetime.

And the happy faces show the universal truths of our time together, lots of appliance fun, great food, laughter, brilliant people and time that passes just far too quicky.

Thanks again Robert

Mathew

Its a Small World After All

First I came to pour over the threads, stories and pictures. I barely slept the first two days. Then I began to know people by their group personalities. It was great fun to share and form alliances. Dick Stevens was the first to come, all the way from California to Washington. What a nice to the bone guy. I attended my first wash in in Tucson and got to see the mighty Toggleswitch in person. Not his "toggleswitch" but the man, the persona and Nate, Ross, Roger, Don, Greg, Terry, Robert, Gary, Jeff, Venus, Austin, Jaime and Michael. There's a tug at my heart when I think of great men I have known who move on because this site can begin to feel like family. I have fallen head over heels for Omaha and the wonderful people there. But the best of all is the mecca that awaits me in Beaverton. Used judiciously you can meet the finest people and travel the world. That's a lot for one man to do, but the Unimatic just keeps on pumping away for all of us.
XO

Thanks for posting the pics

Wow...what a great weekend. And hard to believe it was ten years ago! (Of course, I can look in the mirror and see I am ten years older! Ha!) Gary and I enjoyed seeing the photos again. It was wonderful meeting everyone for the first time. Thanks again, Robert, for hosting that fantastic event.

Excellent thread!

It nice to look at the photos, neat to see Sears back 10 years ago, and Maytag Atlantis machines (yeah yeah, I know, Norgetags/Amanatags but I LOVE the shape of them).

Big thanks to Robert and all the other founding members I forgot to mention, this is a wicked forum and subculture! Glad to see there were other people besides my self who were interested in appliances. Hopefully I can come/make it to the next Wash-In.

10 years... the world really changed A LOT!

And I'm sad to remember it changed to worst.

Less than a month later, the whole world stopped to watch the worst terrorist attack ever.

Some time later, more terrible news took place at AW.org. The countdown to ban the top loaders had started.

But we also had some good news... ICQ died finally and MSN became the most important instant messenger, then the social networks (but wait, AW.org can be considered a social network since YEARS before Facebook), scientists discovered many things that can save lives (unfortunately they didn't discover a cure for cancer or AIDS yet), internet became faster and cheaper and we got rid of that horrible 56kbps modem connection noise, modern washers... well... they aren't as good as the vintage ones, but they are a little bit better than the first HE models (or at least trying to be)..

What else happened in 10 years? Oh yes, gays became a little bit more respected in many countries, as in Paraguay that being gay isn't considered a crime since december 2001. Or in my country, and some american states where gay marriage is now allowed.

and the best of all, the airline tickets are much cheaper! If onde decides to make another international wash in, we could gather much more than 50 guys.

If I understand what they are showing...

Greg, based on what they show, I would say that either we are giving off incredibly strong gay vibes or they don't know the most basic things about the site and "formed" i.e. "made up" the demographics based on the fact that the topic can be considered to be of interest to those engaged in the "domestic arts" which died several decades ago in the general population OR we have a lot of women lurking here for intertainment. Maybe it's the fact that we have non-gender-specific screen names?

At any rate, it gives a good example of what is meant by the saying, "There are three types of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics."
