Today at a Goodwill in Phx at 19th ave & Thunderbird, I found an 80's model of a Maytag dishwasher. It has the old pop-up spray nozzle. Whoever owned it never ran vinager or CLR pr anything as the spray holes are pretty clogged. It's price is $ 20 something???. I'd buy it, but I don't need it....Bill in Az....

Yes, I know of Maytag dishwashers with

a popup center spray tower. It was a transitional design between the last of the belt-drives, and the current crop. We replaced our belt-drive WC400 in 1993 (or so), and the Maytag we bought then had a popup tower. When it was new, it worked very well, and was nicely quiet. No idea how it aged, we sold it when we sold the house in 1995. Unfortunately, the racking had changed to plates on the bottom and glasses on top.

20 something bucks is no more than that one is worth, (IN MY opinion.....) especially in that condition. Some CLR would help.

At the dinner meeting when Maytag introduced those machines, they made much of the fact that the pop up tower had openings at a couple of different heights in the sides of the tower so that the resulting sideways sprays could wash skillets or 9 X 13 pans loaded on their side in the lower rack without having to tilt them forward a bit. I grabbed a portable in beautiful shape a while back that I am going to try out, although I would still rather have the top wash arm UNDER the top rack like my KA 18s instead of over it. Since the lower rack is split like an old GE to accommodate the tower, I am going to use one of GE's silverware baskets that slide apart into half sections so that I can use the big space up front in the lower rack for pans when needed.
