Hello automatic washer

My name is Andrew I am one of the newer members of this fine website. My parents will soon be buying a new washer and dryer for the new laundry room they have. My mom is not the type of person who would do well with an he top loader or front loader. She found a ge top loader that has some interesting specs. She loves this feature on the ge washer she found. "Precise Fill with 5 water level selections - Washer will automatically measure the load size and add just the right amount of water, or choose from 5 pre-set water levels" The reviews for performance are great. Five stars on a lot of different websites. Has anyone on this website owned a ge hydro-wave washer? Could any tell me what the long term life of this washer might be. Is it any better than the plastic tub ge washers? And how about ge dryers?

Thanks, also if you have any other washer that you might think would be better for a family who wants a top loader.
 
have you tryed looking at huebesch or speed queen like for exmple this model to be precise or the top load fridgedair model as speed queen have intressting features as well as it will be hard to find a good old fashion top load machine as all the newer washers are he unless your mom decide to buy vintage and welcome to aw as well

Well thats good news about the dryer. Speed queen washers how loud are they? One thing I know about the GE washer is that it is a very quiet washer.

i have a 2009 hydrowave i bought shipping damaged(for $50,LOL)and fixed up
it has a pretty vigorus,effective wash action with it's brisk long stroke-
the mechanism is like a front load washer's drive system laid on its back,
has an inverter driven induction motor with a pulley of 1"or less driving
a pulley of around 12" directly connected to the agitator-motor reverses back
and forth to provide the agitation.For spin an electromagnetic dog clutch
locks the tub to the agitator shaft and the motor winds up to spin speed
(somewhere around 8000-10,000 rpm)-sounds like a typical modern front load
when spinning.So far no trouble with mine,it's a "play"machine-gets rotated
into use on occaision.Some on here have had the motor inverters blow up on
their hydrowaves though.

SPEED QUEENS ARE NOT LOUD AT ALL, A VERY RYTHMIC HUM OF THE MOTOR, IS ALL YOU HEAR.
 
SPEED QUEEN

I agree...SPEED QUEEN SPEED QUEEN SPEED QUEEN!!! they are absolutly amazing! i know people that have had their speed queens for more than 30 years and they still go. they just about never break down (and IF they do its something so minor anyone can fix) and the cleaning power is fantastic even with cold wash. nothing cleans like a Speed Queen!
The dryers are also fantastic quality and go forever.
so long story short...GET A SPEED QUEEN SET!!! and i agree again, you hardly hear the washer or dryer
 
Love GE Hydrowave!

I purchased a matching GE dryer and hydrowave washer in 2007. never had any problems and love them! The hydrowave wash cleans so well and yes it's quiet! This wash system turns your clothes back in forth through the water , instead of beating it w/ the agitator. I would not want a HE model either and I wouldn't give up my GE hydrowave for any other brand! Love the stainless steel tub also! I have the profile model so it is loaded and use most of the cycles. My favoriate option is extended spin which alot of other brands don't have!
 
Thanks everybody, I think looking into a speed queen is something we will be doing. I do like the long warranty on the speed queens. Ge only has one year on them, mum would not be happy if the Ge died just after the warranty is up. I will be sure to let you all know how things turn out! This would be her first non whirlpool made washer and dryer ever! She loved her whirlpool washer and dryer pair from 1988. We have had issues with the Kenmore 2002 pair however, mostly the washer with the bad motor. The best thing about the Ge and speed queen is the non violent wash action! The shredmore is violent!
 
Hahahahaha, that washer is looooooooooooooooong gone Louis! I want to like the HE topload machines desperately but, I just can't! The only two that I like are the Maytag Neptune TL and my favorite washer of all time, the Whirlpool Calypso!
 
BOL GE Toploader Is Good

Andrew, I have a 2004 Bottom of the Line GE Top Loader and matching Dryer. They work very well. The trick with the washer is to NOT OVERLOAD IT!!! The dryer is very good, as others have just stated. I paid less than $500.00 for the pair new. The Hydrowave is probably a better washer, though.
