A new Zanussi dryer...

Hi! You may not have seen me around the forums before as I mainly read rather than post. Let's start with what happened to our old dryer. After 13 years of heavy use especially during winter, our Zanussi TC481W dryer finally broke down when the timer broke and the drum wouldn't turn during a drying cycle. We needed a new dryer anyway as the TC481W has a 4.5kg drying capacity and our Zanussi FJD1266W washer has a 6kg capacity. Then after a trip to the worst appliance stores in the world (Comet and Currys), we finally bought the Zanussi ZDC4700W condenser dryer. It had to have a large capacity, sensor drying and a water tank on the bottom since we have our dryer stacked on top of our washer. The Zanussi ticked all of those boxes with a 7kg capacity and a water tank behind a cover on the bottom. As for the sensor drying, it has 4 sensor cycles. Cottons cupboard dry and extra dry and the same for synthetics are the sensor cycles. It also has timed cycles ranging from 40 minutes to 150 minutes. It also has a cool programme for the kits that you use to dry clean in your dryer (Dryel, I think it is called). I dried some towels in it today and the sensor cycles are very quick and the sensor is not too sensitive. The lint removal is EXTREMELY good, as I had blue lint about 1cm thick on the filter. The condenser is very easy to clean, but the water tank is very small. Overall, it looks to be a good dryer for us.

It is definitely made by Electrolux, as it has some of the same common parts of my old Zanussi dryer, including the water tank, condenser and drum bearings. I think it is made in Pordenone as well, but correct me if I am wrong.

ariston4life - curious as to why you think it's a Haier/Vestel unit dressed up as a Zanussi. Looks same architecture as Zanussi dryers have been for years, to me. If it is made by someone else, and I don't think it is, then they are using Electrolux architecture for it.

We're getting the matching washer (Jetsystem+) with the screen on soon, as our XC6 Jetsystem has had it. The bearings and PCB are going on it! Dascot - The dryer is made in an Electrolux factory as it comes with Electrolux standard "helpful hints" literature and it says in the manual that it is manufactured by Electrolux Italia spa. in Pordenone, Italy. The dryer gets lots of static on the inner door during a cycle - is this normal? The door is plastic.

at the time i posted it reminded me of a haier unit for some reason after seeing the dryer in person today while i was at currys i know its a real electrolux.... however some new zanussis are made by wuxi little swan in china but those models are easy to spot

Like the look of that. No massive suprise as i usually love Zanussi's!

Looks like they've just tweaked the dryers from the previous range or two rather than go for an all out redesign, which bodes fairly well as i believe the recent dryers are pretty decent by modern standards.

If nothing else i'm sure you'll find it quieter than the TC481W - we have the Electrolux version (Premier, TDC1000W) & it's a good dryer (over 11 years old now) but God it makes a racket. Fine for us as it lives in the garage & used to be in a utility room but if you bought one for the kitchen you'd be pretty dis-pleased!

Keep the XC6 going as long as poss too - the last of the great Zanussi's before they started using bearings made outta Dairy Milk

The dryer is a massive improvement noise-wise over the TC481W, and it matches my XC6 well. It is really strange how it always defaults to Synthetics on the timed cycles. I would have liked the Autosense+, but the water tank is on the top and the timed cycles are difficult to use. Does anyone know where to get a tumble dryer dry cleaning product in the UK? I need one because I have items that can only be dry cleaned, but I don't want to pay a lot.

Evolution.....

Yeah the Zanussi ranges have kinda evolved quite nicely over the last 10 years or so, so different ranges look OK side-by-side in a way that wouldn't work with some manufacturers products. Obviously we can tell the difference but Joe Public wouldn't!

Would it default to Synthetic on timed cycles because it's cooler/more gentle? If you were someone who didn't pay attention & it defaulted to a hot Cottons cycle when full of synthetics then it might result in damage, whereas defaulting to a cooler cycle is pretty safe, if abit annoying. Maybe?

I thought they used to sell a dry-cleaning kit in all the Supermarkets. Dunno if it's been discontinued as i put everything in the wash, even dry-clean only stuff *blush*, but there was some results on Amazon when i did a Google search. Couldn't tell if it was for tumble drying though i'm afraid.

I wonder if the Cooling cycle harks back to the Zanussi TC491D, which had a Dryel cycle (as far as I know, Dryel is not sold in the UK anymore.) The TC491D is basically a TC481W with Dryel branding on the control panel. It also has a nice refresh cycle, which you can use to warm up clothes.
