Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

Gee, imagine that! Its a 1966 model after all.........

Thanks for showing the model and serial Tim! Like you said on the phone, its just like the car guys! Ha. Oh well, When I said approx 1966 model I was kind of speaking from experience, since I had this exact set a while back and sold it to a member on here..........so much for experience!

BTW Tim, I talked to Myra tonight, she said she has several of the dispenser troughs for this machine. If you want I will have her put one aside for you and pick it up the next time I visit her, probably in a few weeks.........Oh and she also has lid hinges, so many she said that she doesnt even save them anymore, her supply is that vast! Yeah!

How Cool is That!

Imagine that! It is a 1966! Please Tell Myra to put em aside for me Id be greatful if you could get them for me! If I remember correctly the Sears Catalogs Came out six months or so Before the actual calender year. I sure did love to look at all those pictures. And the Christmas Catalog..who could forget that!

Sears Catalog????

Hummmm Tim, are you sure you were'nt using that Sears Catalog at the little house out back? Ha! You know, we dont have much indoor plumbing here in Ohio.......

Hey...... I stand corrected, sort of......

"Timonator" (and other guys):

I do stand corrected and I am sorry for the misprint and typo on this board today. The Kenmores that you have recently acquired could be in fact 1965's to 1967's. And in that case, then (Timonator), your washer could just be a 2-Speed Machine then. But I will say this though, there is a similar model that was available back in 1968 that was a #2 Model that strikingly similar to your model. Only the control panel is different from your machine. But THIS machine (that I have scanned onto here), is in fact a 3-Speed Machine (read the text when you open the link).

Maybe THIS was the machine I was talking about.

Anyway, sorry for the mistake and all. Even self-proclaimed "Kenmoretorians" like myself can be wrong sometimes and are not deemded perfect (LOL). This time is one of them.

Anyway, enjoy your new machines. They are absolute jewels.

Timonator......

Sorry for the repeat messages..... What I was trying to do is upload an image of the 1968 Washer so mentioned in my posts.

Okay so, I am going to attempt to do so again.

Charles:

I admit I had to look closely at the pictures to figure out which year these Kenmores were, as the 1966, and the 1968 models are close in appearance. They have almost the same exact features too. I read the ad for the washer you posted, and this washer features the Roto Flex agitator, whereas the 1966 model has a Roto Swirl. Originally I thought you were referring to another model offered in 1968, with the same console design, and two dials just like this one, except the smaller dial regulated load size. That one also came with only one shift lever for water temperature, and it had the Vari-Flex agitator. Now I know there was another model which I was unfamiliar with.

Have a good one,
James

70 Series....

That's right...... the model I have uploaded above did come with a Roto-Flex Agitator. That was the one that was in my catalog. But I also know of someone on here at the club that also has a similar model that has originally came with a Vari-Flex Agitator. But now, he has a Dual-Action Agitator inside of it.

So yep.... you were right..... there was in fact a simlilar model with a Vari-Flex Agitator inside of it.

It's All Good

Enjoyed all the posts! interesting catalog pics too! Although the pics are slightly different Ive never seen one of those! Sears really made some Glitzy stuff back then. While Whirlpool just kinda sat back and handled the production end of things Sears Did a wonderful job of marketing and providing financing. which is what put them to the top years ago Sad to say all the Financial analyst predict Sears/kmart will be out of biz within the next five years! Sad if it happens

Interesting, subtle differences in features on equivalent models from year to year. One of my aunts had a Kenmore with the same control panel as in the catalog pic above (complete with separate 3-speed control and Cold options), but it had a RotoSwirl agitator.

I have recently found out that catalog listings of machines are usually only a representative listing of what was a much greater overall lineup, some of which were not even on the floors at the store.

One recent example...some may have seen a post I put out there recently looking for a 1972 Kenmore control panel. I figured there was only one model that looked like that but never put two and two together as to why one machine I saw years ago had no bleach dispenser and mine does....usually the appearance of a machine changed when they added features, or so I thought.

Doing research on that panel, I found that there were three machines that used the exact panel. There was the entry level machine which used a straight vane agitator, then there was a step-up that had a Super Roto-swirl, and then there was the best of the three which included two dispensers including the agitator mounted softener disp. and the left corner mounted bleach dispenser (it had the roto-swirl as well). There was only one digit difference in the model numbers, but all were 60-series machines. Only the middle machine was listed in the catalogs from what I've seen.

In this case, everyone is probably correct in what they remember and saw, as Sears very well may have made a half-dozen models that were only different in agitator and the wiring (for the 3-speed motors).

I'm thinking that's why you guys all remember similar things that are subtly different.

It is what makes Kenmores so interesting. You never know what you are going to find.

Timonator: Glad the washer is up and running, and with no problems. HOORAY! It must be great to have your childhood washer once again. I love that pic of the washer in action. That Roto Swirl is making serious waves. I wonder how much use it had over the years. The under side of the lid has almost no fading, as if it were still new. However, the lid is leaning back like a typical aging Kenmore that has been well used.

BTW: Hope your toe is feeling better.

Have a good one,
James

James

The lid is leaning back because the hinges have been removed or at least on of them I dont know the story Behind it It was that way when the previous owner bought the house they were in. Anyway new hinges will soon be installed along with the bleach/fabric softner dispenser and Hopefully She'll be good to go!
