A nothing house, but look at what's in the kitchen

Real estate listing in West Pensacola. Nothing special, but look at the dishwasher that shows up in Photo 7. The listing says the house was built in 1961, the dishwasher front is turquoise; I don't see a joint to indicate a door/access panel joint - is this a GE top-loading undercounter model?

It's probably in the storm flood zone so your homeowner's & flood insurance combine with the mortgage to make it unaffordable. The state house gave the insurers all they wanted after Andrew.

I've never lived in Pensacola but regularly check the RE listings out of curiosity.  It is my impression that West Pensacola is/was a very blue-collar part of town with less-grand houses; full of your 3/1 ranches from the late 40's through the early 60's.  It is not far from the Navy Base.  Not a bad location at all.

One could, if so inclined, contact the seller and offer to replace their "outdated old dishwasher" with a new dishwasher that "is sure to help sell their house for tens of thousands more".

You would, of course, be sure to remove the old dishwasher all free of charge.

Yeah... I had thought of that but Florida's just a tad outside of my driving range unfortunately.  One of this has got to surface in New England eventually.

Well, again, if so inclined, after getting the agreement of the home owner, one can contact an appliance retailer in the area, agree on a model, buy it, they would install it, and retrieve the old one.  Then they would also need to box and ship to you.

Nice thing is, you get the appliance delivered to your door without having to lift a finger, except for making a few phone calls.  On the flip side, the costs can add up. 

 

We always pay A PRICE when collecting appliances.  Whether it's our time, the use of our vehicles, gasoline for travel, physical injury, occasional disappointment, etc.  For people like us, who are collectors, we don't think of it as work really.  It's more fun.

 

A good attitude meaning patience and being fair about chances of finding what you want, and sticking to ones budget (if you have one) is a sure way to completing one's collection.  I'm amazed that I've nearly fulfilled my vacuum collection in about 6 months.
