Rich received a spur of the moment call from his friend Mr S. who runs the scrapyard in PA. So with only a moments notice, we were off on another junkyard quest! Mr. S. was a little under the weather, so his grandson met us in the yard to unlock the gate for us, and gave us free reign throughout the whole yard for the whole day! What a treat. It was a beautiful fall day in PA, with just a little dampness, but we didnt let that dampen our delight in scrounging thru all the great stuff. There were whole loads of new arrivals..........Oh, and the van in the left corner was NOT a junkyard item, but my poor old trusty van, that has now hauled hundreds of appliances ready and able to do the job again..........

Nice finds

Its always nice to see some newly acquired vintage around here. Looks like all had a great day, Thanks for sharing your photo's with us. arthur.

Looks like a fun trip.
But what did you find on the bottom of the 1-18?
If that dump was down here, you'd better be wearing snake boots. You might find a rattler or two in some of those machines!

Junkyard

Hi Jimmy,
Real great finds. I am so Happy you are taking that beautiful 1/18. It's nice to be surounded by so many wonderful appliances.
Best Wishes
Peter

Mr S. must have been anticipating our arrival, as Drive Thur Order Here appliance guys. Rich, having been given strict orders to save all 1-18's, placed and order here for at least one fabulous 1-18........

On our way in, there were mostly newer items, but this mid 50's GE single door refrig was a stand out........if it only had been a little nicer I would have picked it up......

A few moments later, Rich yelled over to me something about a Hotpoint stack set. I told him I didnt think Hotpoint ever made a stack set..........duh! Turns out this is what he meant..................Oh, yes, and there was a Maytag almond set pushed in next to it.....one must wonder how in the world junkyard guys unload their inventory......?????

Going into the 40 acres of appliances, there is a BIG mountain of heaps of washers and dryers on the left. Rich saw something on top of the pile and decided to make a Mt Everest climb........

Over on the right of the yard, in kind of the Mesa area, we found this fabulous Kenmore dryer. Mr. S's yard has always proven a haven for dryers and this trip was no exception. Dryers are important too, of course, because not only can they be just as wonderful as a vintage washer, but they help to complete a Matched Set!..........

A few more feet away, was this wonderful Westinghouse front loader. It was a complete washer, Im using was in the past tense, since Rich and I almost completely stripped it for parts. It even had the Weigh To Save and a light in the tub!...........

Well, looks like Rich's order for a fabulous 1-18 was received........a TOL 1-18 with Lighted Controls! Yeah!!!! It turned out to be in excellent condition, and perhaps Rich can later post about the one unusual thing we found on the bottom of this washer........it certainly was a first for both of us......The problem with this washer, and many of the items here is that they become "land locked". "Land Locked" means that many items were placed around them in succession, and there is no easy way to get them out. It took us a little while to MOVE many of the items just to get access to this wonderful find........

Around the corner from the TOL 1-18, was this Frigidaire dryer that looked like the match to the washer. They almost certainly had come into the yard as a set. But a closer look, pointed out to me by Rich, shows that this dryer is actually a WCI Frigidaire. It was very interesting since the washer was a GM 1-18, and its mate was a WCI!!!

Off to the side but very interesting and complete was a wonderful Tappan electric range, with the warming tray on top. Boy, what a shame to leave this behind.......its condition was extremely nice........sigh,
