A question about a Kenmore built washer

Recently I bought an old washing machine from a guy who i know and he told me the washer worked. I inspected it top to bottom and saw no reason why i couldnt put it back in working order. which aall I did was repalce the inlet solonoids. It is labeled brand name "Galaxy." but it is a Kenmore all the way. I says on the console that warm wash only , cold rinse only, it has no water level setting as this is all preset no matter the amount of clothes you place in it. works like a charm. It is not as wide as the normal Kenmore washer. Does anyone know the history of this machine? actually I think it to be perfect as a starter machine for a student or single person who doesnt need to wsh 3 loads aday.

I think Galaxy was a budget-priced line of appliances made for Kenmore. I worked at place where we had a Galaxy dishwasher in the lunchroom - very basic, but got the job done. The dishwasher looked like a GE clone, though.

Galaxy was indeed the lowest in the Kenmore line, with a new name. They also called them "Capri" at times. I don't know why the BOLs were re-named, perhaps Kenmore was embarrased about them?

The machines are mechanically the same as the rest of the line, just the BOLs were 24-inch regular capacity models, single water levels, timer set temps, etc.

The BOL models were basically the same in appearance and function/features for years and years - from fairly recently to back in the 1970s.

I don't remember exactly when the name "Galaxy" was used, but I'd guess early to mid 90s.

I saw a set when I bought my big washer in 2003. They weren't cheap enough to make it worth it! The panel was brown plastic with black knobs over the white appliances. Each only cost about $30 less than the lowest Kenmore, which had white panels and grey knobs. I felt like they made them look cheap on purpose, so that they would look embarrassing enough that even the most frugal buyer wouldn't want them in the house.

I believe all the Galaxy washers are Direct Drives.
