A question about Wash scent boosters

I'm talking about the Unstoppables, Gain, Scent crystals etc.

I got a free sample of the Unstoppables at Sam's recently. I actually used it in my vacuum cleaner bag, but was wondering what these waxy little pellets actually do to the insides of a washing machine.

Do they completely dissolve in the wash, or do they just continue to coat everything into a big waxy mess? I can kind of picture them building up like excessive softener usage, just wondering if anyone has any experience with them.

Was the person handing out samples standing at a table with an oven? I have never seen non-food samples handed out at Costco. The pellets dissolve, but the odor seems to stay in the machine, at least in the Miele. I got the turquoise ones. One word of advice--Don't.

NO, Actually

The free samples were in one of the automatic Kiosk. You scan you Sam's Membership club card, and the Kiosk dispenses a sample.

They are very strong scented. Like I said I used about a tablespoon and sucked it up in the bag of my vacuum. The vacuum now emits a nice "clean" smell instead of a stale, dusty, dog hair smell when the bag is nearing full.

That’s the only use I have for these Scent pellets, in the vacuum cleaner bag. And to me, these are the best vacuum bag scent products I’ve ever used.

Thanks for the vacuum bag idea!  I don't care for heavily-scented laundry at the best of times and I'm reluctant to even try a free sample of scent booster in any of the vintage washers, but when I get any free samples now I will know what to do with them.

Personally I can't stand fruity scenty sweet fragrances. If someone is wearing too much cologne or perfume my sinuses swell up and nose starts to run.

I like my laundry to smell like nothing. (I guess clean and fresh) Just like really Fresh Fish does not have a odor at all. And if it does have an odor... it's not fresh. That's the way I like my laundry.

These things scare me along with shampoos, body washes, deodorants and all commercial personal products. I am even sketchy of disposable diapers for young and old. I mean what is in those chemicals up against that precious area of your body ? Guess I'll sit down and have a bowl of twigs and tree bark.

Then there is the toxicity factor. Not only harming you but the ground water.

Harley-- I use Unstopables for sheets/bedding only. I like the fresh scent version on sheets, but would never use it on clothes or kitchen/bath linens. Had no problem with pellets dissolving in the Maytag front-loader (although a few may migrate to the boot, they'll dissolve during the cycle) or the SQ top-loader.

Wasn't too long ago . . .

 

. . . that dye and perfume "free 'n' clear" detergents were all the rage, ranging from odorless and crystal clear like water to just a tinge of blue to purportedly make it easier to measure and a touch of "masking fragrance".

 

In time, some "expert" making the talk show rounds and a few "Is your laundry fragrance enhancer KILLING your KIDS?!" teasers on the news will swing the pendulum the other way.

When your laundering habits are so poor, the cold water and poor detergents leave clothes with a stench so you need to dose them with a different stink to counteract the stench. If some people notice that their clothes and body reek of smoke to the point of making other peoples' eyes water so that nobody will sit near them, sometimes people will try things like this or perfume to help cover it up.

Unstoppables Fresh Scent

We use a little for Hockey equipment. They always dissolve and leave no noticeable residue. I always buy them on sale with a coupon since they aren't necessary, but more of a "luxury". Since P&G neutered their Tide Odor Defense Boost Pods they will be used more frequently. I will have to put some in our Miele's bag. That's a great idea!

Last week at the our local grocery store, there was a lady near the exit handing out samples of Tide Pods and Downy Unstoppables. I quipped "Thanks for the snack" when she handed me a Pod sample and she picked up the small black foil pouch of Downy and handing it to me said "If you love those, try our salad dressing!" Touche madam, well played!

I tossed out the liquid pouch, I also can't stand the overpowering smell of most current softeners and scent boosters, but putting a few in the vacuum bag is a good idea.

I bought a canister of Purex some-scent-or-other couple years ago specifically for using with the vacuum.  Seems this product-type won't clog the vacuum bag as did the vacuum powders marketed in the past.

I’m not a huge fan of these products although like many when they first came out, I bought a few different ones to try.
I found them just too strong in washed clothing and left the load feeling very rough and ‘clogged up’ if that makes sense. I thought I liked strong scents on laundry but that was a whole other ball game.
The only ones I have in my cupboard now are Bounce Original scent ones from eBay because it’s one of the nicest scents I’ve ever come across. They don’t go in the laundry though. I have a small dish with some in in my car. Some in both of my vacuums bags and some in a small net bag hanging in my wardrobe.

I just heard in an ad on LOGO that they now come in the original scent of TIDE! That information may be cockeyed, but it sounds like good news.

Target, Walmart and Amazon have the original Tide scent formula beads. Imagine being able to enjoy that scent from our childhoods without the suds! I am going to Target to smell the stuff before buying.[this post was last edited: 2/11/2018-12:20]

So...I purchased the Tide Original Scent version of Downy Unstopables and used a capful on a load of bedding. Paired it with Rosalie's Zero Suds to minimize the chance of corrupting the scent. It will remind you of the Tide of your childhood if your childhood was in the late 1990s. It isn't a bad scent; just not what those of us who saw The Rolling Stones on Ed Sullivan would consider 'original' Tide.

Ugh!

I tried this last year, both husband and I about died from the strong smell these product gives off! I cut WAY back, and was still too much.. I ended up giving it away.

I gone scent free, and can't stand all the smell from people who uses heavy scented products. Just chemical filling our home and making us sick.
