A quick view into LGs US production

I was wondering which dryer model(s) was produced there. So it's the HP wash tower. I wonder if the upcoming HP washer/dryer combo will be produced there too. And stand-alone HP dryer model(s)?
That factory is where my LG 4000 washer was made. Kinda neat to see how it was made.

BSH Group is currently building a refrigeration plant in Mexico because all Bosch (and related fridges) cost the company money due to pricing targets we have to hit and the import taxes specifically in the US.
India is effectively banning all fridge imports next year.
It has become a quite political topic since the last 10 or so years, appliances from Asia have become so cheap that domestic manufacturing has become less and less competitive.
Those countries that are big enough now put taxes in place to keep at least certain amounts of production domestic.
They don't care who produces domestically, as long as they keep jobs in country.
That's why somebody with such an insane market share as LG just goes "OK, we will produce there."
The prices in the US won't change, their profits stay basically the same.
It's a win-win - except for the reduced growth in the Asian countries factories.

A long-time friend lives in Clarksville, relocated a couple years ago from Nashville. She worked as an accountant for an AO Smith water heater plant for years but recently quit for a start-up in Li-ion battery manufacturing.

Yes, it’s always neat to see how appliances are made today with automation and very tight quality control. It’s easy to see how these machines cost less than real dollars than machines did in the 50s 60s etc.
When you look at the complete picture there’s very little different difference between what whirlpool Maytag is building and what LG and Samsung is building GE as well,
The amount of plastic in these new machines is really a shame because it’s not effectively recyclable, the machines themselves are very lightweight using very little steel.
It’s good that our government has imposed taxes which is caused LG and Samsung to start building washers and dryers here , it’s also more cost-effective to build many appliances here in the US, the sad thing is the workers working at these plants do not enjoy the same benefits that workers at Maytag whirlpool enjoy, and Speed Queen there’s no union there’s no domestic partner, benefits etc. in these plants.
You also have the corporate profits going out of the country still and companies like LG and Samsung have yet to set up any type of decent service network in this country so be sure there’s decent service for the product if you intend to buy it in your neighborhood.

Unionized appliance plants
To be fair, a lot of the plants of the traditional US appliance brands are non-union these days as well, including Whirlpool - so hard to knock foreign brand plants for that. From an article back when the Newton Maytag plant closed:

Hi Sam, thanks for the post however, the sentence stating that the Clyde Plant is non-union and also that Maytag machines would be designed redesigned and built at Clyde or both very wrong.
First of all whirlpool did not take any Maytag laundry appliances and redesign them and build them in their plants. And Clyde Ohio is a union plant, it was a bit of a stretch when Trump went there in 2020 and had to speak before a union audience.
Whirlpool also does an excellent job of supporting employees with domestic partner programs a man I know is the head of the office that’s the liaison for LGBT employees at Whirlpool. Whirlpools other plants in findlay, Ohio Ohio partly wind powered, and Marion, Ohio. Are also unionized as our the Speed Queen plants in Wisconsin..
I always say you only get to vote every two years but every time you spend money it can make a difference in peoples lives. I try to look where things are made and how they’re made when I consider purchases.

It isn't just that article, all the other sources I can find point to Whirlpool's Ohio plants being non-union. It's a bit surprising, since Ohio is pretty strong union territory generally, but that's what I'm reading.

Yeah, WP has had good LGBT benefits for >10 years now...they actually were the first big Michigan employer to require their health insurer to provide zero dollar PREP (Truvada at the time) coverage.

I've always been fond of Whirlpool. Everything in my house is Whirlpool...the only thing is is that it's nothing recent from them...I'm just not as confident in their current stuff as their stuff from the past. I think if I had to replace an appliance I might get one of their electric ranges, Refrigerators and definitely their standard dryers are my favorite...Not sure about washer or dishwasher anymore. The truth is most all the appliance companies have iffy build quality (even TOL) and speed queen doesn't make refrigerators, dishwashers, ranges, etc. Of course, if they did build them to last, not many people could afford them.
