I have a sad update. I,m no longer working with recycling machines. For the moment i have no work at all.

In the end of November they would removing workers because "cost issues". I dont understand why. I and four other fellows were the ones they quit.

The 1 st of December my boss called me into his office and told the situation. I didnt know how to react to this. I got pretty much angry but i know it was bad idea getting angry at my boss.

It wasnt really his fault. Instead its our "community" where i live that tries to save money. They dont care who´s working more or less.

Of course i still will be here at automatic washer and telling/showing new stuff. But sadly there wont be any more "recycle" videos.

Fredrik,
I am so sorry this has happened to you. No one deserves to be laid off if they work. My thoughts and feelings are with you.
Just realise that it wasn't your fault and don't take it personally.
I'll bet you can get something better!

YUK. Bad news. Hoping you find good employ, and soon!

I have heard, on the other hand, that unemployment insuarance(i.e. income while you don't have work) is VERY liberal in parts of Europe.)

For example I heard you can go become a master of history of say, Bedouin tribes in Turkey. When you get our of school you can claim unemployment NEVER having worked in the field. Any truth to this?

Friedrik,

I am sorry to hear that. I hope you find something which makes you happy soon.
Steven, that's one of those urban myths folks in the States have...spread by the christianists and republicans. Germany has one of the most "liberal" welfare nets. You can apply for re-training, but it must be for something which has a chance of being employable - or will lead to a self-supporting business of your own.
To draw unemployment insurance, you have to be actively looking for work...and that means, if the government gives you a 1€ job, then you take it or they cut your unemployment down until it hurts, really hurts. So you may be teaching a university class or digging holes or working as a doctor in an out-patient clinic...for one Euro/hour.
OK - you don't starve to death here, and you have health insurance in an emergency. You don't end up homeless or your children undernourished. But it is not a free ride.
Not in the least.
There is a lot to criticize about Europe, but the ROI for capitalists is higher than in the US - has been for some time, not just right now - and we still manage to keep people off the streets.
What the US has to offer which Europe could use lots of is a positive attitude. Over here, if your business idea is not already a success, there is little interest in backing you.
American optimism is worth more than you can imagine.
(My gentle way of saying, gosh, Steve - you've been kinda, not quite yourself lately. Everything ok?)

What a horrible time of the year for this to happen--although there is never a "good" time...

Is it possible that you will be called back to work?

I'm unaware of how unemployment insurance or job prospects are in Sweden, but I'll be hoping that you're re-employed at the same type or even better position very speedily.

The posters here are very bright and you should not hesitate to post to get feedback or questions from them, if it helps.

Try to take it easy, and not let it get you down. No job is worth it.

Wow... Never knew europe was that tuff....

Good luck on finding re employment, no time is ever the right time...
