I want to share a website with you that is a good idea to visit. It is
www.familywatchdog.us

When you visit this site you can enter your address and a map will pop up with your house as the small icon of a house and red, blue, green, dots surrounding your entire neighborhood. When you click on these dots a picture of a person will appear with an address and the description of the crime he or she had committed (lists rapists and child molester locations) You can see how close these people live to your home or school. This site was developed by John Walsh from Americas Most Wanted. Another tool to help us keep our kids (and women) safe. You may want to share this with anyone who has families.

Stay safe!

That works if you don't live in the boonies like I do. But my neighborhood is very safe (or seemingly so) and there are a few cops that live there.

Would you believe.....

We have four sex offenders within 3/4 of a mile from us, and ten in the general vicinity. It doesn't matter where you live, they are lurking out there waiting for you or your children. Everyone should always have their antennae up for these bastards!

Thanks for the info Mark! I've bookmarked it, and will peruse it frequently!

There are people who can't keep it in their pants anywhere you go. They also report people who were convicted of "Crimes against nature". Well, me being naive, looked up what that meant. Sodomy. Then of course, that raises the question. Is that against the law if it's between consenting adults? And unless two people are doing that in public, should the police even notice that?

Anyway, I checked out Chalmette (or whats left of it) and around my old neighborhood are a child molestor and 2 people with "Crime against nature".

By the way, Opelousas, LA is full of Child Molestors. Geez.

OMG

There are over 470 on my map....

I knew there were alot in the 5 mile area...but OMG...
This map is more user friendly than the one from the local Police web-site.

Thanks for posting it lightedcontrols...it is going to help me make a more informed decision on where to relocate in the near future.

Think I will go get my hand-gun liscense.

OMG, this makes me sick :-(

Here is a newsflash-

IIRC sodomy is technically defined as ANY contact that is not M-F contact (while married) that is potentially baby-making to include touching or kissing. It's quite a catch-all.

An arrest could be made in the old days: For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. Try abbreviating that one.

They also report people who were convicted of "Crimes against nature".

--Since humans are part of nature technically we can not, by definition, be doing anything that is against (outside of)nature.

Is that against the law if it's between consenting adults? And unless two people are doing that in public, should the police even notice that?

--Many of the private, intimate actvities that are common-place (to all) are technically illegal. Specific to my tribe our recreation was illegal in literally half the states 'til recently. (It ain't much better now).

In my city, for example, it is still illegal to tie a horse to City Hall. I mean where else would you tie one? Methinks we need to rethink some laws.

This is a very dangerous 'tool' and I hope it is NEVER introduced in the UK. Who is in control of the input of information and what safeguards are there to prevent any one of you being branded a rapist or paedophile and having some lunatic petrol bomb your house?

If it was...

I very seriously doubt that if it was between ''consenting'' adults that it would have been an issue with the police! And Hoover, stop living in the dark! If I had children living at home (my three adopted are on their own now) I would surely want to know where every child molester/pedophile lived around me! We just had a judge here in Virginia let a CONVICTED pedophile go. Two weeks later he raped and killed a 7 year old boy. So yes, WE SHOULD KNOW WHERE EVERY ONE OF THESE psychos live! Hopefully, the Netherlands will wise up to this and do the same even though I realize the sex laws concerning minors are quite different there. Went to Amsterdam and was appalled that kids the age of 14 were available for ANY kind of sex, and no one seemed concerned or cared. Mark

I'm sorry, but I have to say at least something here. In the Netherlands it is just as illegal as in other countries for 14 year "available for ANY kind of sex". Amsterdam may be a city with a lot of freedom, but there are rules in my country and they are being maintained too. Too many assumptions I think.

Well, Louis, here in the USA we have a highly placed official with the Homeland Security dept. who has been charged with soliciting sex from a minor over the internet.

So much for enforcement of child abuse laws... kind of like putting the foxes in charge of the hen house.

Tried it-according to the map -69 sex offenders near my place--the problem I have is people stealing my lawn mowers--hope they are not having sex with them!!!Keep my M1 carbine handy.A neighbors teen was involved in a drive by shooting several years ago-the neighbor is a very nice person though-have no problem with him.For the most part-its safer in this neighborhood than the one I used to live in that was near wash DC years ago.Saw one "drive by" shooting there-person was hit in the leg.Another-a dead man in front of the apartment building-ran into that after getting home from a night shift.Glad I am away from that-there I had to keep that carbine LOADED!

everyone does realise that even the entertainment industry (tv news) has participated in entrapment exercises, where a reporter poses as a minor and entices adults into illegal acts. the police do this too. *hoovermatic* is not off the wall by questioning police ethics. human nature has proven itself vulnerable to a witchhunt mentality many times. yes, children are often victimized. but just because someone is under 18 doesnt mean that they are uncapable of deviousness. gay men have often been lumped into the same category as child molesters, for sexual behaviour that might very go unreported if committed between man and woman. such as in nightclubs or spring-break beaches. or college activities. this subject deserves responsible and active thinking. beware of kneejerk judgements.

Washington State is trying with the help of our governor Christine Gregoire to pass a law that will impose a minimum sentence for all sex offenders who have violated anyone who is disadvantaged. This includes children, elderly, mentally or physically disabled persons.

cannibis laws are good for the law enforcement industry. keeps the prisons busy, more work for cops. policemen want a paycheck too. cannibis laws also allows the cops to seize your property and sell it for profit. also allows for more minorities to be locked up. the pharmaceutical industry also dissaproves of cannibis, they would rather you buy THEIR products. the pharmaceutical industry is a powerfull govt lobby.

My poor old computer can't come up with enough pixels to fill in all the different colored dots in my neighborhood. I can't even find my house for all the dots. Big surprise.

gasp

Pennsylvania isn't included on that site...right now. Oy.
It would be good to know about convicted sex offenders since I have two children. But unfortunately logic tells me there are waaaaaaaaay more offenders running loose who haven't been convicted yet or may never be.
I found out a few weeks ago that a guy who used to hang around the high school when I went there was arrested for soliciting a 14 year old girl online. This guy is about 37 years old. He is 7 or 8 years older than me and he used to always have younger girlfriends, like 14 year olds when he was out of high school, in his twenties. Makes me sick and I'm glad he got nabbed.

As a second thought, just to put out there..I don't have anything against age differences, I am really open about things like that. But this guy and his present situation says exactly what his intentions have always been with girls that young.

Police, and the rest of the enforcement & judicial system like any laws that can be enforced that don't require a lot of effort or risk, and can be prosecuted easily. Laws that provide good "return" also are favored. Law enforcement and the judicial system favors laws that have the potiental to make money through fines, property seizure, "favored" lawyers, etc.

This is one of the reason why they gravitate towards traffic laws so much. You rarely ever hear about cops pulling over people red-handed for road-rage or reckless driving. You DO however hear constantly about cops writing citations for speeding, parking violations, etc. Around here, the red-light cameras are a hot topic, and they have been proven not to really increase safety, only to shift the problem to rear-end collisions. They DO make money though! Of course the cops don't want to get involved with a potientally violent person behind the wheel that's in a fit of road-rage. Same goes for the cannabis laws. Police like these becasue typically cannabis users are non-violent, and many of the facts that Brettsomers stated are particularly true as well.

One of my biggest gripes with the sex-offender "witch hunt" is the way it victimizes people. We don't have very clear explanations on this site of what these people actually did, but I imagine, many of them could be "wrong place at wrong times" type crimes. For instance, a parent could be charged with a sex offense these days by taking pictures of their naked children in the bathtub. There was also a case a few years ago about a family that was skinnydipping off the back of their boat. The Coast guard stopped to see if everything was OK (They got a call about a stranded boat) The parents ended up getting charged with sex offenses, and loosing custody of their children!

I work with the Boy Scouts, and it we cannot even as so much as touch one of the boys in ANY way! This can be something as simple as grabbing a a scout's hand to help pull them up a steep hill during a hike, or helping him properly wear safety equipment, like positioning the head strap on goggles. In fact, the local scout camp had to spend a fortune re-engineering their showers becasue the leaders couldn't shower in the same facilities with the kids.

While I am all for protecting kids from these predators, the way these wich hunts for sexual predators are going on, everyone in this entire nation is going to end up on this list for some reason or another!

Hi Mint 46

Welcome aboard. I'm down here in Harrisburg. It seems you collect refrigerators. If you want to expand your collection, let me know. I've got a great vintage GE looking for a home.

I have a lot of family in Harrisburg PA. I frequent the town every so often for family events. Know anybody with the last name "Winner" around those parts?

You're a winner

No, I can't say that I've met anyone named Winner since I settled down here. I met a "Wimmer" or two, though.

versatronic

Hey, thanks for the welcome! Have you heard of my little neck of the woods up here? I have family that lives down your way...Higgens, Lykens, Tower City area. Crazy little towns, but it's a fun drive!
You know, I didn't mean to collect refrigerators, I wanted stoves, but ended up on the cooling end of the spectrum! The nice people we bought our GE Stratoliner from offered to sell us a Westinghouse fridge, so we got it because it was love at first sight. Then when we went to pick them up, they offered us a GE monitor top and a kelvinator, absolutely free. The monitor top had given them some trouble after 10 years of good use in their posession and since my husband does HVAC for a living, they thought he might be able to work it out. The kelvinator is covered in rust on the outside, needs a new door gasket/seal and a major cleaning inside, but it runs like a pro. So, we are planning to restore the kelvinator, my husband is making himself crazy researching sulfur dioxide to get the GE back on track. It runs but after a few hours it stops cooling. He says it is vapor locking, and is anxious to fix it. He has talked with many of the old guys in refrigeration in our area about it and has become well informed of the dangers in messing about with sulfur dioxide.
Whew. That was a rant and a half. Now, about this precious that might be needing a new home......what are you offering for sale? *please tell me I read vintage dishwasher instead of refrigerator* LOL
Feel free to email me with the details!

Chris

Hey Mint

I'll email you a pic of the fridge this weekend. I grew up in Selinsgrove and also went to WACC for three semesters, so I'm familiar with Hughsville. In fact, I seem to remember that I used to play in a club in Hughsville when I was in a band, unless it was Muncy. I still have family in Selinsgrove and Northumberland. I'll be in touch.
