Not really!

It's my daily driver DG512, with a nifty window added. I always wanted the porthole door, and finally found one in great shape. No worries, the original door is safely stored away. Here is the pair, with the 712 washer.

Even the cat likes it!

Arthur is the least nosey of the two, but he loves watching the whites go 'round.

I have RCD on the look out for one of those doors for the DE808. I hope he comes across one in harvest gold!

Ha! I've been looking for one of those too! You would think with all the Maytag coin laundries the would be more readily available. That set of yours looks great!

Dryers with windows are the bomb!

Dave, I don't believe these were ever made for HOH dryers.
Qsd-dan, there are harvest gold doors out there. The almond ones are harder to find. You just can't kill these dryers.

Tough HOH

HOH was definately tougher than the later SOH, and was a perfect match for the "spinning tranny" washer. It appears that the SOH dryer was the beginning of the end for Maytag. I believe they created that because it had much fewer parts and therefore cheaper to build. It followed the trend of many dryers, switching from belt-and-pulley drive to single belt drum drive. The SOH had one advantage, the new design allowed for a larger drum and door. Then about 12 years later, the washers got a similar treatment, switching to the orbital tranny with the DD WP-like short quick strokes. The rest is history, as is the real Maytag is now.

Beginning of the end?

I really don't think the switch from halo of heat to s-o-h dryers was the beginning of the end. Maytag would have died off a lot sooner had they not switched from halo of heat. Complaints of capacity and having to reach into the back of the drum to clean the lint filter...

Mrb627, i agree the capacity was always "tight" with the HOH dryers, and many did complain about the hard to reach lint filter. Bobby was your window door white to begin with? It looks great. Around 1987 i remember HOH coin op dryers with windows and harvest gold was the color i would see most often. alr2903

So they DO exist!

Probably hard to find one in ANY color since most HOH's were probably trashed by the late 80's/early 90's. Damn!
