Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

NIB - To use or not to use?

Ahh, the age old quandry .....

Easily sorted this time because not only did we have the Ariston version of the washer but also the Colston.

This had been well used but was still running like a champ although, to be honest there is not much to go wrong. They are quite small, they have a 4 1/2lb dry cottons capacity where, for example, the Hoover models had 6lb dry cotton capacity.

The story behind these was that the father of the ebay seller had worked in the factory where these were made. They did not survive long after the Ariston takeover and he bought about half a dozen models which he has been using in the 35 years since.

A spirit of co-operation

These were bought from Bishop Auckland - quite a bit further north of where i live so Richard (Ricky5050) very kindly picked them up for me and transported them down at the weekend. I was very pleased to return the favour as he bought a Creda Debonair spin dryer in Milton Keynes which was able to pick up from on by weekly commute home - win win all round :)

Like A Virgin

It was a pleasure to meet Mike for the first time and to share the joy of these classic machines, and of course to see some old friends again - this was just a mini-mini meet just on one day which, needless to say, shot by far too quickly.

Although we did not have any slant front Keymatic action we Mike was able to see a couple of the more modern Keymatics in action

Looking forward to the next time :)

and a plus when the weather is so nice also!
My models of AEG items are much tinier. Scale of 1/87. DB E71, E191, and E 108 #08 museum locomotives respectively.

Fridges were mostly freestanding at that time, or they were very small built-ins. But there were matching ranges. Here are a few examples. There name was Deluxe, later they got the name Competence. Perhaps there were even other names, but I can't remember that.

Thank you

Thanks to Al for hosting a great day, and along with Mike, Ian, Mathew & Richard for making me feel so welcome. It was lovely to meet you all.

I had such a fun day. That wall of Keymatics is something else - I kept going back for another look !!

Great to see so many machines, meet lovely people and have plenty chats and laughs.

Thanks guys.

Already looking forward to the next time.

Mike.

Blimey!

The AEG machines look awesome - very bling, but in a very tasteful way.

Seeing the photos and mention of the matching washing machine reminds me of when I first surfaced on this sight, back in 2007.
Back then, the machine below surfaced on ebay and was just up the road in Matlock though, not being in the collecting game at the time, I had to watch it go unsold and probably handed to the council :-(

What I can absolutely confirm is that these machines weigh an absolute TONNE! and are the heaviest machines I have ever had the misfortune/fortune to move.

German engineering = induction motor, stainless steel inner and outer tubs and cast iron weights. Wonderful machines though...

The Benidx's look excellent and, being virtually unused, they should be. So glad that you were able to purchase them from Amar ....

Another Purple Haze!

What can one say.
I know they can be an acquired taste, but they look lovely too and nice to see a bit more of the range, in the form of a matching fridge!
Oozing 1970s brashness :-)

and the other newbies on the scene ... the Colston/Aristons.

Page below take from Autumn Winter 79/80 in their Colston incarnations, so a bit earlier than the new in box examples.

Looks like you all had a grand day and good weather too.
All the best.
Paul

Wonderful material Paul! Thanks for sharing!

The AEG Novamat 85 is new to me. I have never seen it in later documentation. It must have had the same suspension as the Novamat 64, which was a "dancing" washing machine. It's speculation, but I bet that Novamat 85 could have had issues with falling over during the spin cycle, knowing how wild the 64 model could go when spinning.

Thanks

To Al for all his hard work, especially in the kitchen, hosting another excellent meet up.
It was great to see the little Colston in action paired with Richard's Debonair, I've just got the ironing to do tomorrow, and the Variotronic personal viewing theatre is an inspiration!
Ian.
