A visitor from North Canton

Its been a great weekend having Tom (myhooverco) here. We’ve been thrifting, yard sailing, rummage and estate sailing. Even bought a couple of Kirby trade-ins. We hit both Rochester and Buffalo, NY and just about everything in between. Its been a great time fixing, restoring and running vacuums too. Even my wife came along for the fun and adventures. Its going to be sad to see this weekend come to an end. Here are some pictures of what we’ve netted.

Green Convertible.......

Its really a Decade 80 which was nothing more than a dressed up Convertible. A real nice machine. An early one too. Has the speed switch actuated by the handle position and not the power surge as in later models.

Glad you all are enjoying the pics. We did have fun.

You got severa nice 'luxes there, along with a few good vintage hoovers too! I love those lux canisters especially though! That brown Olympia there is like the one my mom has, and the gray and white one is like mine too. You hit a good jackpot there!

Sad to see it all end...........

Well, Tom is on his way back to North Canton with a trunk full of goodies. I've got some new toys to play with too, but its sad to see it end. Why do all the fun times go by so quickly? Of course, now I can't wait to visit Tom in North Canton this summer. Somthing to look forward to. It will be nice to see Jeff again too.

Hey Tom, you forgot to take your tomato plants! And your test shag remnant. I can bring the shag out this summer, but the tomato plants will be too big. I'll just bring the tomatoes!

Most expensive find?

It would have to be the Nilfisk at $15. Most of the other stuff was less than $10. Some under $5.

Those brown Luxes you see are not Olympias. They are the same color, but cheaper models. One has no cord reel, just a strap that you tie the cord bundle with. The other brown one has a cord reel, but its plastic. They both are very lightwieght and louder than an Olympia. Their switches are on the back of the machine compared to the front on the Olympia models. They are not automatic bag ejectors either. I'm guessing they replaced the model L as the low budget models. BTW the two Silverado models are in excellent shape! In fact all the Luxes pictured are in very good condition.

Now, to find bags for that Nilfisk. That has to be the oddball of my collection now. I like it.

I have to thank Joe and his wife, Charleen, for their generous hospitality over the weekend. They opened their home to me and shared the best of all of the thrift stores, flea markets, and sales that they had to offer. It was like an extended treasure hunt. I also enjoyed seeing Joe's vacuum collection. I hope that he will post some pictures of his restored machines and those in waiting. He has a great collection of vacs of ALL kinds! Charleen is the best cook. There is nothing like farm fresh eggs for breakfast and old fashioned perked coffee to open your eyes in the morning.

Joe and I worked on everything from a Nilfisk, Electrolux, to Hoovers. The best part was when we had to CUT off two front wheels off of a Hoover convertible model 70 whose wheel bearings has seized together. Joe used a reciprocating saw to cut them off like a hot knife through butter. We also plundered a great old Kirby shop in Buffalo and came out with a car load of items! My best find was a $2 Hoover convertible model 584 semi commercial machine from 1966. I even came home with a $3 Hoover electric knife in the box.

I cannot extend my thanks enough to Joe and Charleen for hosting this mini "vacuum in" over the weekend. It was a great time and I am so sorry that it had to go so fast. I am looking forward to my next visit to do some more Hoover hunting. Thanks again!!!!!
