Hi, The machine, Maytag A 506 will agitate during the spin cycle but will not spin. 4 years ago I replaced the tub seal and bearing ( stem and boot ), the injector, two belts and the motor springs. Any ideas I would appreciate greatly. ThanksIMG_2157.jpeg

The machine just agitates when the dial is in the spin mode instead of spinning.

The oil - would that be a transmission seal gone bad?
I don't want to get a new machine. This one has served us well for 38 years.

GE filter flo washers agitate instead of spin when helix spring clutch is broken-similar cause with this Maytag- those in the know with Maytags could advise where this helix spring is on a Maytag

Slip the belts off and turn the transmission pulley counterclockwise (looking from underneath the machine). This should cause the agitator to move. Spin the pulley clockwise (opposite direction) and it should climb up the helical shaft, lock and spin the inner tub (you'll have to overcome some resistance from the internal brake spring tension). If it doesn't spin the tub, it's probably worn or broken clutch washers inside the transmission..

My 1988 Maytag with that transmission did it once. I remember calling my dad after I removed the front panel to ask him why. He told me to move the timer to another spin cycle, and it spun, and never did it again. I left that washer with my ex in 1993.
