AARGH! Struck out again with a timer repair place...

This is getting really frustrating - the saga of the timer for my 56 GE washer/dryer combination has another chapter with an unhappy ending... Turner's Timer Repair in Toronto sent it back to me with a 'sorry we can't fix this' note!! I don't get it - the problem is with the drive motor; surely that could be repaired/rewound/whatever, no??
Forgive the ranting, but I am now actually working on the new kitchen and I would love to get the GE combo in there, even if I can only get the washer part to work...
My last hope would be Midwest Timer - but is it worth my while even trying??

Bummer. I wish my Grandfather was still around. I'm not kidding you...He could fix anything. If it had electricity,fuel,mechanical motion, he'd look at it and tear it apart and the next thing you know...It was working again. He would have been an asset to the club. Eddie

Man, that would have been great! It really is sad that there are so few skilled repair people left. I am really thinking that it is time to learn how to do this myself!

Hey Paul,

I don't know too much on timers, but since the timer motor was made by Ingraham clock company, that maybe you could find an old working electric desk clock or kitchen clock or something similar and sustitute the motor from that for what you need. Just a thought as you never know what you might find that may fill the bill.

Wow, thanks Doug - great suggestion!! I have a couple of old clocks that I'd be willing to sacrifice, too...

I opened one of these clock motors once and had good luck getting it to run again. The motor was humming, but the mechanism not turning. A little cleaning and a teeny-tiny bit of lubricant and it took right off.

Frankly, I was scared like hell to try that, but at this point, I have nothing to lose! Guess what I'll be doing this weekend??

What style timer is that model using? Do you have any pictures of it? If its a clamshell style, I have 2 rebuilt timers in the basement.

The timer itself seems fine - it's the blasted drive motor that seems to be fried. Here is a photo of the complete assembly, though. Thanks!!

you can get a motor that will work, I have a bunch, Fixing the motor itself is possible too, I know a guy who can do it if anyone can.

Wow, if you have a working motor already, that would be fantastic! If not, I would definitely need a contact for someone who can fix it. Thanks, Matt!
