About time I put my washer on here.

Abco, my discharge hose is permanently in the sink, only goes over the wash tub once every load, I have my ways lol. I start feeding the next load in as I am spinning out the first loads suds, unlike on alot of the vids on Youtube were people prat about doing suds return, stopping the spinner and then starting to rinse. I do it a much quicker way. I will do some vids soon.

Well, even though I'm a singleton myself, I do wash for three of us, which includes my work uniforms, lodgers and his b/f's uniforms, all bedding (two double beds) four pairs of bath towels, seven dish cloths and tea towels, regular clothes, at least five pair of jeans, lots of sweaters, two bath mats, wooly jumpers, three white dressing gowns, LOADS of underwear (dark and light)..... I can tear through it in an hour, easy.

The launderette thing, my local launderette is non manned in the evening, no problem there really. London, well I had to come back to Hull recently because of family probs n'stuff, but I will probably end up back in London at some point. Often down there to see friends etc, and to pick up carbolic soap lol! Can't get it here! Love the new profile pic btw, very handsome (blush). Abco, British detergent should be available online. There are two main types in the powder version, which in my book is THE only thing to use... I don't schlep around with liquids that need nets, bags, tablets, all that shite... Powder is usually with "automatic" in the name, which is low sudsing as Uk machines are usually front loaders. Usually come in biological (can remove stains at low temps) or non bio (for people with delicate skin). The other type has "hand wash and twin tub" in the name, and not many brands do it much these days. This is high suds, and usefull for hand washing, twin tubs and agitator top loaders. I don't use this detergent as the Hoovermatic tends to turn your kitchen into the Poisiden Adventure (I know I spelled that wrong lol) I use Daz, which is a regular biological powder, cheapest brand powder, great smell and does the job. Ariel is my fave, but it is VERY expensive. Don't like Persil automatic, no suds at all!! Even some of the store brands are good, Asda (Walmart), Tesco, Morrisons all do their own detergent. 1970's machine old? I was born in the 70's!! Most of the machines I have had were from the late 60's/early 70's, some belonging now to my friends, and still going strong. My machine is from 1989/1990 I think, the last model Hoover made. Perc, flip flop were invented by G-d himself!! Lol.

Washing for three?

That sounds like a...erm...cozy state of affairs. No wonder you want to get through it at speed! I don't envy trying to get it dry all at once...with or without that drying cupboard!

Ariel (by P&G) and Persil (by Unilever) are the top brands; pick Ariel for sudsy washes...not 100% sure about Persil - it was very low sudsing at one point. Both are pricey but over here the supermarkets have offers just about every other month these days; a bit of shopping around and one can wash with premium brands all year round without breaking the bank! I've no idea, however, one would go about getting packets shipped to the US.

 

I'd say there is an etiquette to flip-flops: fine for around the house and garden, popping to the local shops or any warm holiday location. Not suitable for a day in the urban jungle (feet get too dirty).

Yup, washing for three! And to think of my poor mother washing for four, specially when me and my bro where small, and he was still in terry nappies!!! Your right about the soap powder, although I do miss some of the old brands that have gone. Tide is available now and then, in those Asian run "bits and bobs" shops on the high streets in London. I do like Fairy Snow, but again, too sudzy for a Hoovermatic. Fairy auto is ok though. I do like the smell of Fairy softner too, even though I hardly use it, as I dry most things in the dryer to keep things soft. I use the drying cupboard for shirts. Like to have my underwear in the dryer, as I don't want baggy Calvin Klein undies lol! Yeah Fairy is one of the original "washing fragranced" soap poweders left, I have always wished Dettol would do their own powder, as once a month I add Dettol to the last rinse, smells lovely!! Oh, thanks for the pic comment, I like to keep changing it, otherwise it gets boring. And no, you don't look moody in the slightest, look quite tidy actually! Lol.

I only ever use Persil but always remember my mother using fairy snow, can you still get it ?
I have never seen it.
Suds return you made me laugh about the dettol, when we were kids my aunty used to put it in our bath water when we stayed with her , to this day if I have a bath ( it's usually a shower ) I still put detail in it , love that smell.
why would you leave Hull for London , you've got Prinny quay ( full of chavs ) Fuel ( full of gay chavs )
Yep , guess you're right , London sounds good... Although Hull Truck is definitely a national treasure.

Top loading hotpoint

Yes me again, 7.45 Sunday morning , can't sleep, just read comments again,

Why don't I have a Hotpoint Top Loader? Well, the high cost of London living combined with my modest wage has so far precluded me from (a) living on my own and (b) having a kitchen that would accommodate one. As you can see from the pic below, there will be no cutting holes in the worktop here...especially as a mere tenant! My recently revived Hotpoint WM12 is all the compromise I can have for now. Storing a TL in the house is 95% out of the question: it would look a tad odd in the bedroom and the only other space is occupied by the Proline washer I have to keep on blocks because it belongs to the landlords.

 

As to your other cryptic suggestions, well...I can't possibly think what you mean! Pure as Fairy Snow, me...

Although I am a friend of Dorothy, I don't go into Fuel, cannot stand the skinny hairless 0's throwback queens that go in there, all dressed the same, in carrot trouseres and espadrilles (look like mental patient shoes to me). I left Hull in 2000 to go to Uni, and to make a new life, two boyfriends, some well paid jobs later... I'm back in Hull, why I don't know, but it had improved since I left in 2000. And, apart from me saying the odd "oy vey".... how did you know I was Jewish? Lol, you been looking at my Facebook page? Spiracle? Why do you call SuperElectronic that? Lol, sounds like some kind of flying saucer to me! And yes, next time I am in London, I think a coffee would be a nice idea! About the top loader thing, SuperElectronic is right, alot of private landlords are very funny about kitchen units. Luckily, I am council, and our block has had its "decent homes" kitchen installed. The washer space can take a large auto, or a Hotpoint toploader.

Fairy Snow.

Fairy Snow is still available in many chain supermarkets, and some independants. I know Tesco and Asda don't do it, but I think Waitrose does, or Morrisons. Next time I see some, I can post you a box or two if you like Lance. And the Dettol thing, I only do tha because my mum used to put Lysol (the old stuff in the glass rubbed bottle from the chemist) in the last rinse, smells more "hospital" than Dettol. Not available in the UK no more, although available online from the US as Lysol Original Concentrate.

Fairy snow

I often go to Waitrose in Hull , the one near Lidl ( and I believe the Synagogue) so I will look out for it there.
Definitely not Morrisons, always Daz there.
But in the meantime if you see some then yes please, pick up a couple of packets for me , I can nip over to Hull and collect , I usually go there every couple of weeks.

I go to Waitrose here, it's the only place were I can get kosher food, even though there is't much of a choice nowadays, there are the traditional things. I usually buy trief beef from Tesco and kasher it at home to get rid of the blood, kosher meat is expensive. Leeds is the best place to go. When I lived in London I kept a 100% kosher kitchen, as it was all cheaper there, a much larger community. Community has shrank here, I remember when there was a kosher baker, kosher fish and chip shop, a butchers... There are a few Jewish owned places still around, one of which being Sellwoods, the second hand appliance dealer on Hessle Rd. Mainly though, it's the solicitors and accountants and a few tailors. I never been to Driff, but i did work for Dewhirst in Hull which did have a factory in Driff.

Old Mrs. Dewhirst was one of my customers but died last year so unfortunately the company has now gone although I suspect it had been struggling for a while.
Oh and just for the record I have never been in Fuel but ended up one night in Frankies vauxhall tavern.

Vauxhall was one of my haunts when I lived that end of town, and the old Sillhouette club. Dewhirst, the Dewhirst I worked for was the clothing factories, I think the one in Driff sent all its work to China back in 1997, same happened with the Hull factory, only a few Dewhirst factories left in the UK now. Don't worry about popping to Hull, i will post some Fairy Snow to ya, I work alot so I am very rarely able to socialise. Oh, sometimes Home Bargains get Tide washing powder in now and then, in the original lemon scent. I have been looking around for the old Allbrite Blue, but I think it was dicontinued in the 80's, used to love that powder. Is Surf twin tub still available?

I don't think I have seen surf twin tub for years, square deal surf I seem to remember.
I have several packets , still with contents, of omo, fairy snow etc but so far have resisted the urge to open them, they are all vintage as in pounds and ounces not grams .
What do you work at , just curious.
