Found a good looking Waring Futura 850 blender today at a garage sale for $2. Works wonderfully with a couple cosmetic blemishes on the base frontplate. Glass jar is perfect but the black rubber lid has some kind of stickiness around it. Not sure if it had tape on it at one time during a move or what.

What can I use to clean the lid and won't damage the rubber?

Photo was taken from a similar one on eBay (see link).

Thanks!![this post was last edited: 5/1/2010-20:29]

Lighter Fluid

I have no idea how this would work on rubber, but it has amazing qualities for removal of sticky stuff on paper, cardboard, etc. (It's an old record collectors' secret for removing markings and sticky labels from album covers, labels, even vinyl). And it's cheap.

Start with least damaging

and work up from there is the advice given to most new collectors. I'd start with either vegetable oil, or Dawn dish liquid, and a dish brush. Or, scrub with a paste of baking soda and water.

Good luck.

Thanks!

I soaked it in warm water with Dawn and brushed it with a toothbrush. It has lots of ribbing along the edges so it was harder to get the goo out of there. I then sprayed Goo Gone Gel on it and brushed again. Dipped it back in the Dawn solution and it worked pretty good. Still a little gooey here and there but for the most part, clean.

I will try the lighter fluid when we get some. We have a gas grill so I don't have any handy.

Thanks all!

WD-40

I like using WD-40 to remove adhesive residue. It leaves a slightly greasy or oily film, but that's easily removed by soap and water.
