Action Chlorine Bleach

Hello y'all,

 

Do any of you remember a product that was sold in the early 60's called "Action" chlorine bleach? It came in a smallish blue box and it was dry chlorine bleach blue powder in these nifty cellulose (I think) packets that would dissolve in the wash water and release the bleach gradually (although not so gradually that it didn't do some major damage to some of our laundry which is, I guess, why it didn't last long on the shelves). I think these packets must have inspired Colombian cocaine dealers to get very innovative with product distribution technology.

 

If any of you have any pictures of the product I'd appreciate it if you'd post them.

We used to get something called AXION I think, but it was color safe bleach, I really like the little plastic packets for each dose, and they did disolve once you tossed them in the water.....

the new stuff doesn't seem to work as well.......

I also miss Salvo tablets....simple dosing, no guess work, no measuring

Also, we used to use Pine Jelly in the wash, great for deodorizing

I remember Action Bleach.

Seems like only the commercials survived. Stills on this closing ebay auction here .

 

Everyone remembers the hand coming out of the washing machine but this one was better.

Back in the late 1960's, I had the job of doing the family wash, but Mom picked out the laundry products. Action was the bleach she wanted to use (along with Ajax, Bold and Gain detergents and Final Touch softener). Action did a decent bleaching job, but there were always one or two broken packets in the box, and you had to be careful not to have wet hands while handling the packets or the plastic would dissolve. It wasn't much of an improvement over liquid bleach (and our Kenmore had a bleach dispenser). I didn't cry too much when Action went off the market.

Thanks for the responses, those pictures from the videos on ebay were very helpful, but I'd almost suggest they should have gone in the "As the Tub Turns" forum in one of the "Bears" threads. Wonder what that manacled hand does after hours?

 

When I Googled "Action Chlorine Bleach" I came up with a zillion hits for a new Manga hero whose unlikely name is "Bleach". And they're making an "Action" movie out of him. Geeze, do we have a Japanese member here who is a Manga artist??

NP on the images just glad there was at least a few images of what was an icon boxed detergent product.

Sadly Bleach is one of the big three manga/anime franchises and they have had at least one live action movie.

Wikipedia has a bit on the naming of the series.

Probably has more to do with the Nirvana album of the same name from 1989..

I remember how the color was a blue verging on lavender. Sample boxes of two came in the mail. There might have been some coupons & great deals at the store because I remember using it a few times, but mostly mom did not go in for all of that expensive, new-fangled foolishness, although we used lots of Vim and Slavo, which is what my brother called it. The tablets, also, came as free samples originally.

Yes. I remember Action bleach also. I also remember the Lysol laundry sanitizer powder. I never got around to trying the Lysol, though.

I have a box on the bottom shelf here - sorry it's not a better picture. I've never used the samples I've found, didn't have much faith they would still be good.

Nice collection! I always liked the scent of Rain Barrell fabric softener. I used it in the final rinse instead of the wash, though.

I tried looking for it yesterday on You Tube but was unsuccessful. It was a parody of the Action bleach commercial on Carol Burnett where an arm comes out of the washer and hits her in the face.

We used to use Action Bleach. It came in blue and had plastic packets that melted and dispensed the bleach evenly. there was also another type of non-chlorine bleach tabs called "lestare" they were made by the makers of "Lestoil" and were an oxygen bleach like "Snowy". they were out back in the early to mid 60's.At that time,we had an Easy Rivera model that we replaced in '63 with a Lady Kenmore gas combination washer/dryer.We changed our detergent brands from Super Suds and Cheer to dash and All because the combo needed a low sudsing detergent and they were all that was available at the time. I like Dash but my Grandmother,Mado, liked All. Because my Aunt worked at lever Brothers, we would get the cases of All and Drive from her along with Final Touch fabric softener.My Grandmother always called fabric softener "Fluffo". I guess that was because she'd bought the store brand (Pantry Pride) called Fluffo that was pink when we had the Rivera going.I think it was made by King the same company that made King syrup and King starch. I remember king starch smelled like Sassafrass tea.
