20 pound load sample
Everytime I see an example like this it just makes me cringe, helps perpetuate peoples' poor laundry and sorting habits. I cannot imagine putting htose white t-shirts in with some of those dark colored towels; cannot imagine putting those dress shirts in with those towels; or any of those whites with those dark colors. Just makes me cringe!!! Yuck!! As far as I'm concerned, that lot should have been sorted into 4 different wash loads at least!!!

The Admiral name is owned by Maytag.
Today is a brand sold at Home Depot; ie one of their "house brands" made by Maytag
Here locally Home Depot sometimes has a Admiral Top Load washer ATW4475VQ, these are usually less than 300 bucks. A friend bought one last summer on super sale for about 235 dollars. It actually washes very well. The HD sales guys even recommended this unit over TL models costing 420 bucks., It is not clear if this is due to a bigger commission or it is really better.

The Admiral "name" is owned by Whirlpool...therefore the Admiral washer sold at HD is a direct drive Whirlpool washer.....best design for the $$$$ since the belt drive Whirlpools stopped production.

That 180 degree side opening door is the same as thius Magic
This Magic Chef 20Lb dryer off in the woods in the missile silo
has the same door and insides, same semi circle type door opening once opened.
Since Maytag made some Magic Chef too I bet this is a cousin of the Admiral 20Lb dryer in the cool adverts posted.
It even has the same vertical features on the sides in the unit's sheet metal frame too

Admiral/Maytag Now....
...is pretty much identical to the BOL Kenmore, Roper, Estate, Inglis washers. I have one sitting in my kitchen because Home Depot gave me a better deal than the other places. It's actually a very respectable machine. Good capacity, cleans the clothes well (and I'm picky), and it's been trouble free for me. I miss true HOT water for whites, but I could have done a whole lot worse for 300 bucks (all I could spare at the time when my other machine went belly up). I prefer it to the TOL Whirlpool it replaced; that machine was fussier, and I didn't use the extra cycle options that often anyway.

I have the 4475VQ and it is ok. Why pay more.
I am not as knowledgable as most ppl on this board, but the Admirals in the pics are the same as my previous machine a PAV Maytag Performa, aka Norgetag.
Although it is scorned, I miss that machine. I miss the selectable fast/slow agitation and spin speeds. I miss the extra rinse switch. I miss the wide tub that could easily handle bulky things. It was better than my current machine at either a) filtering lint, or b) not generating lint. It was so flexible at letting you choose various cycle times and options.
It was my first major appliance purchase as a new homeowner, so I'm sentimental. I thought that it offered a lot of features for the price, and indeed it did. I got 13 years use out of it, so I guess thats not too bad.

We bought our first house in 1995 and almost bought a pair of the 1995 20 lb Admirals. The previous owner of the house decided to sell us their 1991 GE Filter Flo set instead (cheap.) I sometimes wonder how we would have liked those Admirals.

I had the set with the Magic chef logo, the parents had similar labeled " Crosley" . Very powerful machines especially good for heavy bulky loads. The timer died in mine, the center bearing failed in the parents. Many of these came with a 10 year trasmission warranty. alr2903

We had an Admiral TOL color television in the late 60's thru 1973 when it was replaced with a Magnavox. The Admiral was a great television with a beautifully clear and sharp picture on it. Mama and my dad wanted to replace the Admiral television with another Admiral but decided on Magnavox.
