Hi guys,

Some of you might know me as turbo500 over on vacuumland and Chris on Hooverland UK. I need a bit of help about my washer. I'm not a total novice when it comes to washers and dryers. I know the basics - avoid Indesit, stick with Miele etc. But at the moment, I'm on a budget.

My apartment came with a washing machine already in it - a Beko WM5100W and it's not particulaly good. It's loud, takes a lifetime to do 1 wash, doesn't fill up via the fabric conditioner compartment AT ALL and so the softner compartment just clogs up and it doesn't always spin. So we're replacing it. I just was curious as to which washing machine I can get that's fairly decent and under £250. I don't expect it to last me 20 odd years like my Mum's old Zanussi, but at least something a bit quieter that washes well and does everything it's meant to. I've read a few reviews online and I'm stearing well clear of Beko, Haier and Indesit but everything else seems to be a bit too expensive. Any ideas?

many thanks,
Chris

Well if its under £250 its always going to include haier, beko and indesit- but indesits also go to 300+.

Theres a whirlpool which is for £240, 1200 spin and 5kg. I'm pretty sure it'll be better than beko. its been rated 4.8 out of 5 which is really good on comets site by buyers.

How strange. I live about 30 seconds walk from the interchange - down the street from the Great Victoria Hotel if you know it. Where abouts are you? Many thanks for the advice. I will deffo be looking into that Whirlpool.

oh wow! Near ikea? I know it well. My friend lives in Batley. I work in Leeds city centre so I know a lot of people from around Leeds and a few from Huddersfield.

No not near IKEA thats more towards Birstall. I'm very close to Batley Bulldogs rugby field.

And i love going city centre leeds, went there yesterday. lol :D

Ahhh ok. Is that near the huge PPG HQ?
I work directly behind corn exchange - in between Kirkgate Market and the bus station. You can't beat Leeds for shopping. Shame there's no vac or washer shop tho :(

Powder Coaters? No idea.
My company books all there travel and so I know them well. They're called PPG Architectural Coatings UK Ltd and are based on Huddersfield Rd. I'll be online when I get home.

Don't buy whirlpool!

I have the exactly same machine except for the slower spin speed and it had 2 service calls in 6 months!
First was for bearing failure and the second because it started filling too much!!!
For the bearing all the machine's insides had to be changed! The tub is welded and you can't do anything! If I were to repair it out of warranty it would have been a 285€ bill! And also for the overfilling problem the PCB/wire harness were changed, again under warranty, if it was out of warranty, the bill would have been of 180€!!!

Get something from a European producer!

Even Indesit is better than Whirlpool! Get a nice Hotpoint (indesit) machine or anything from Electrolux and why not something from Candy/Hoover or Brandt? Do they (Brandt) sell anything in the UK?
