Advice on a new disposer

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

I really liked the builder grade Kitchenaid that this POS badger replaced and would like to find one that is similar.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions and the background. I'm going to look for an older new NIB Viking or Kitchenaid before buying new.

Follow up on disposer...

Following up on the Viking disposer volsboy1 sold me. It's finally installed! I wanted to wait for the new sink and counters to be installed first. It was worth the wait. Now this is a garbage disposer! I haven't had a chance to put any bones in it yet, but, I have challenged it to stuff I wouldn't have dreamed of putting down the crap Badger it replaced. Banana skins with stem, broccoli stalks, pineapple peels - with the top and dead flowers all went down without balking. I've had zero backups. The condo was built in '91 so the plumbing can handle the stuff I put down, if the disposer chops it fine enough. This one is equal to or better than the ISE and Maytag batch feeds we had in the seventies and eighties.
It's also a batch feed, that Wes converted to continuous feed for me. It's the best of both worlds. I like being able to keep the plug in the sink, so nothing falls in, either while in use or not. Fun to use and much quieter than I expected.

I am using an Insinkerator Evolution 1 HP. Whisper quiet, and my only concern is that you can't hear anything as it revs down---I have removed the rubber baffle and can still see it spinning even after the noise has vanished. Baffle is removable and can be washed in dishwasher (which I do once a week to keep it clean). My father has the compact 3/4 or 5/8 HP version, four years of perfect service and you can barely hear it run.
