I need some advice on our fridges. We were hit bad by storms Friday night and lost power untill last night(Monday). I had unplugged everything except lamps and was hoping for the best. 5 large trash cans and many bags of food were tossed and we scrubbed them and waited.
The power came on and I waited a couple hours to plug a fridge in and then went to get milk eggs etc. I always a thermometer in and 24 hours later the s/s Frigidaire frs24xgcb will not go lower than about 28 in the freezer and around 50 in other side.
I also have a hotpoint ctx18dibqrww that was unplugged and cleaned and I went this afternoon and plugged in and the lights came and nothing else. I left it plugged up fo a hour and still nothing.
Should I give them to scrap or try to fix. The hotpoint had a new compresor put in under warrenty and the Frigidaire had new defrost timer, element and more done 5 years ago.

Make sure your power has been restored to full voltage.  It's too much of a coincidence that both fridges have been affected.  If you have an electric dryer, check to see if it will dry a load of towels in the same amount of time as before the outage.

Thats what I thought first but I did 2 loads of towels and rags and they dried in a normal time frame. I have both plugged in to outlets that are on seperate breakers. Thanks for the advice ....

Try burping it

I know it sounds crazy, but its has worked for me in the past. Tilt the machine halfway to one side, and jiggle it a bit. Then tilt it to the other side, and jiggle it again. Stand it back up, wait an hour or 2, plug it back in and see what happens. Also, make sure the thermostat is set as low as it will go, in this sort of hot weather your regular setting may not be low enough to bring an empty machine down to temp after it has heated up. You can always throttle back the thermostat once the proper temperature is reached. It is best to have assistance for the burping trick, just to be safe.

I'm sorry you didn't complete your information about your name, so I can't call your name. Anyway, twice in the past I had a 14' American, 220 volt Frigidaire Fridge and later a Brazilian Brastemp. Both had the same problem after blackouts they refuse to restart so I moved back and forth the thermostat and they restart and kept on working normally for several years. Of course that happened at different times for each one. Good luck with your fridges. Another thing is : if they're plug in the same circuit, that circuit could have a problem like an opened circuit breaker. My best wishes. Gus
