Advice wanted.

Hi everyone.
Im in the UK and looking to buy and American style top loading washing machine new. Im after some advice about the best make/type etc. and any stories you have about experiences with the newer ones.
Ive always fancied a Speed Queen but not sure of the quality. and the fisher & Paykel look good but again no experience.
any thoughts would be much appretiated.

Speed Queen,

Are very well built washers. In fact I would say they are your best bet if you want a traditional U.S. made TL.

FYI.... Fisher & Paykel are designed / built in New Zealand, not the USA.

Export Speed Queen washer

Hi Si, before you decide on a Speed Queen washer check what (export) model is available in your country. The only model which is available in Argentina (for 220V/50Hz) is a ONE speed washer, a sure NO NO for me! I have no access to the model sold in Australia, which is a two speed model. I highly recomend the two speed model.

One thing to remember.

The SQ as with most US TL's does not have a heater. If you want to do hot washes, it will need to be connected to your home's hot water system. For a true hot wash the system should be able to supply 20 gallons of (60c) water. However, these machines, given the proper detergent, can wash clothes well in warm (40c) and cool (20c) water.

Hi all thanks for the replies.
Big supprise was the SpeedQueen doesn't have a heater! no prob here as have hot and cold supply but still suppprised.
We have this available here too. any one had any experience of them?

Would you believe there was a Speed Queen washer on ebay which just closed. I do not want to post the full link again if it has already dropped off Shoppers Square but if you search on item number 171287550979 you should find it. The list closed without meeting the reserve which I presume was near the £700 BIN.

The washer was branded Huebsch which is the brand name of Speed Queen in Canada.

A quick google search indicates that they are available new and there is no indication of them needing a transformer - they are sold in Australia though so they would be making 240 50Hz machines for export in any case.

Its unlikely you would find any such US washer with a heater, if you feel the need for being able to "boil wash" i think you only option would be a used Hotpoint top loader of which there are still plenty of second hand models around. Just dont be on a water meter is my advice as they use A LOT (and i mean A LOT) of water

Where would one get a Fisher & Paykel clothes washer in Europe? I have only ever seen their dishwashers.
