I've got one of these that came with the house... I have absolutely loved it, but it is starting to be a little disappointing in terms of wash quality, especially on the lower temperatures.

I suspect it may just need a good service, but the chap who has been before recognised it as a great machine, but I'm not sure has the skills to improve it.

So... I'm either looking for top tips to sort it out or someone who might be interested in acquiring it...

I'm new to these forums, so I hope I haven't breached any etiquette!

That's a great machine! Is the machine fully working? No problems with draining the water etc? Are there no foreign objects in the pump?

How is your water pressure btw? On the rinse cycle the machine is time filled, the amount of water it takes in is not regulated by the amount of water IIRC.

Looking forward to hear more about this machine. And perhaps you are able to share a picture?

It looks fine - it's a bit yellowed I suppose, but I can try to take some photos later to show you what I mean.

Checking the water pressure sounds like a good plan... Other than that it fills, drains, heats, spins and seems to be doing everything right. The only problem really is that although I take it out regularly to clean it the fabric conditioner never gets taken from the drawer. I mostly use capsules in the washer for detergent, but on the odd occasion I do put some in the drawer that seems to get taken.

Lincolnshire isn't that far - would have to make sure you got photos, etc. so you knew what you were getting.

Keep it going......

Always worth keeping it going if you can, as few modern machines will be as well made as an old one, especially something like an older AEG.

Keep an eye to see how fast it drains. Just because it drains in the end doesn't mean its got rid of all the water before a fast spin, which will affect spinning & rinsing performance.

Also bvear in mind that older machines tend to complete cycles alot faster than newer ones, giving detergents less time to work. Therefore unless the water is already really sudsy it might be worth adding abit more detergent than you would for a modern & slower machine.

Also.....

I never find capsules & liquid to do such a good job as powder, so providing the powder section of the drawer works correctly i'd give powder a try instead. It shouldnt make a huge difference but when these machines were designed we only had powder & liquid, so it could be that the detergent isnt well suited to the quick program times.

With regard to the fabric conditioner not draining, i suspect a quick engineer visit to look at the solonoid or spray arm in the powder draw (not sure which this machine has) should sort it. The solonoid may need replacing or the spray arm might be stuck.
