Seattle broke a record today with 98 degrees. Eastern Washington is hitting 110 in some areas. I agreed to make a wedding cake for a cousin and drive it to Rimrock Lake, in Eastern Washington. The same time, Gilda's needed cookies and we have tickets to go to Pink Martini at the St Michelle winery so I needed to contribute to the picnic concert.
The Fruits of todays labors. One wedding cake, cookies, chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, peanut butter, chocolate no bakes, sesame crisps and walnut gems, Date Filled steamed buns, Lemon Rasin Brioche, Onion Pancakes, potstickers, walnut shrimp. Now, get the cakes in the freezer for a 3 hour ride, bag the cookies, put all the food away and clean up the kitchen.
I had company most of the day and it was fun and went quickly.

The Morning After The Night Before

It is 6:00 AM. We went to the Pink Martini concert with 10 other friends. The music and food was amazing.
I am off to work the Gilda's Booth at the Swedish Cancer Run.
I'll chatter when I get home and show the process for Chinese Onion Cake.

Parrot Plate

Ususally I serve parrots in bowls, they're not to good with forks.

I had no idea what it was. I bought it Willmette, Illinios in a shop called Mindscape. It matched some small serving trays I had. I took it off the wall, to look at it when you asked..

It is signed, Parrot, in the clay. It has a sticker from Mindscape, dated Aug, 1, 79. I have no idea who Parrot is or what that means, to the dish.

In the middle eighties I found out it had a hook to hang and it has been Art every since. If I am having dinner or catering and need an extra bowl, it comes off the wall and is pressed into service.

I decorated my own place for the first time when I moved out in 2004. This wall is the last of the innocuous decor. Things here are wild and wooley West now. The two smaller pieeces were done by Kyler and Sara when they were in Daycare. I rescued them from the door of the fridge (Maytag SXS 1987) and had them framed.

My Father is a well know Rodeo Stock Contactor so the decor has the Indian, Western, Rodeo look. Mom gave a ton of stuff and my junking has twisted into Western as well as chrome, with a cord. My father will be inducted into the Rodeo Hall of Fame so we're all going to Hoo Haa to support him. My parents are rumored to retire this years. They are 80. You can see his horses and bulls on sprots channels and in the Las Vegs Rodeo final each year, the first two weeks of December. Frank Beard and Sons Rodeo from Ellensburg, WA.

Hi Kelly,

Love the picture of your cake and other goodies. Looks like we have a lot in common. Would love to chat with you about it. I just quit my Technology job of 21 years and will start working in the bakery at our local Wegman's supermarket. I am going to learn the whole department. This is something I dreamed about since i was in high school and I decided its now or never. Email me [email protected]

Onion Cakes

3 1/2c flour
1 3/4c warm water
2t salt
1/2t white pepper
2t sesame oil
Place in processor and run until dough forms a ball. Divide dough into 12 portions.
Roll each ball into an 8 inch circle, brush with oil and sprinkle with sliced green onion. Roll into tube and shape into a coil. Roll into an 3 inch circle. Cook in skillet at 350 degrees, 3 minutes on each side. Serve warm with dipping sauce

Sauce

1/2c chicken stock
2T soy sauce
2T sliced green onion
1T minced garlic
1 tsp chili paste

Rollin' Rollin' Rollin'

I use a silicone rolling pad and a silcone rolling pin and never have to use flour. Use a small amount of flour to keep dough from sticking, if you use a board.
The 4 examples are
8 inch circle
circle topped with oil and green onion
circle rolled into a tube and then coiled
coil rolled into an 8 in circle, prior to cooking.

And even after reading all that, my head is still going...

Gonna find my baby, gonna hold her tight
Lookin' forward to a little afternoon delight
My motto's always been "when it's right, it's right"
Why wait until the middle of a cold dark night....

grrrrrrrrrr

Kelly--- That's a LOT of baking in one day! Everything looks great. The wedding cake is really fantastic.

About the weather: That's WAY too hot for Seattle; so many homes aren't air-conditioned since it isn't needed often. Hope the hot-streak breaks soon for the Emerald City.
