Hello,

I was in a thrift store today and I found a pair of Maytags in Harvest Gold. They are a matching set. The washer model was HA806 with serial letters YH. The dryer was a GD808 with serial letters ZU.

Does anyone know what year these were made? They are in very nice condition - $150.00 for the pair.

(Wish they were white though)...I have always wanted a set with the glass control panel with the flourescent illumination.

Sorry...I don't have a picture.

Hey Todd ~

The washer is a April of 1976 machine, and the dryer was spit out sometime in September of 1977.

Grab the machines! You'll love the versatility of the washer, and hopefully you'll like the Big Load dryer. Keep us posted ~

I love my 806 washer - so versatile and with a 50 hz pulley and belt set - actually performs like a washer should with a big load!

Gary, is that dryer electronic control? That washer was fairly TOL, even more versatile than the 806! If the dryer is as nice as the washer and electronic control, then it might be worth the price, but if the dryer is an auto-dry (temp controlled automatic cycle) then maybe a little less? They are, after all, 20+ years old ;-)

Will view the washer tomorrow. Is that washer an orbital transmission, or helical transmission?
I love the turquoise agitator.

I will try to take pics of the dryer to post after tomorrow.

How can I tell about the difference in the dryer....electronic control vs. temp control?

These are from about 1984 - 1986

These are from about 1984 - 1986. The washer must be the TOL A712. I have the US brochure somewhere. And they defintely have the slower stroke helical drive transmission: you can tell from the agitator.

Personally, i think they are defintely worth $150.00 as I have paid more than that for just the A512 washer.

Cheers

You might as well go for them. I belive that washer is an A712, which is the model Consumer Reports tested in 1985. As I remember this was the last year where Maytag was rated Number 1.

I don't know where it placed for 1986, or 1987, but I do know this model was tested again in 1988, but was ranked 4th after the Whirlpool DD brands of Kenmore Whirlpool, and Kitchenaid. The rest is history.

Good Luck,
James

get them, for sure. i think the gentle/fast option is a real plus. great for smaller loads when you dont want the clothes shredded, but still want maximum extraction. or fragile things like thermal blankets.

the tub, gyratator(!)and control panel look NICE!
